In Buddhism, there's a word called, Avidyā which means "not seeing the truth" or ignorance. Ignorance of what? Of illusions. And that's the reason why we cannot "see" the truth. I won't bother you more with it details here (lot of jargon), just want to share you the mage and the video which I think they tell better story.

Why do we "see" that the upper top two sets of chess pieces are different, even they are identical (two sets below)? Here is the video I found on YouTube though:
