Back in high school, my senior year, Mr. Larsen's Social Studies class; we were supposed to give one oral report per semester. We could chose any subject. I bowed out. Actually I hid. Too shy.
Now over 50 years later I wonder: what if I knew back then everything I know now? Could I help NOT getting up in front of the class and babbling for 48 minutes on the changes. More changes then even took place during the renaissance. Even as now I see no end in sight.
Even before then Isaac Asimov was moved to write a science fiction scenario featuring the character Hari Seldon who could foretell the future. Just by the mathematics of interacting humanity. Except in the story a mutant was born and upset everything. Mutants are notorious for doing the unexpected.
Which brings us to the point. Non-point? Looking back some times it all seems too obvious. Something had to give. It couldn't go on like that forever. At some point I can honestly say life is worth living precisely because the unbelievable is predictable. Just hold out a little longer and the show really starts! You don't want to miss it!
But who or what is actually running the show? Even if you don't believe in God you must admit things pop up to confound the best laid plans. And if you do believe the adage " the Lord works in mysterious ways " it is hard to prepare for the shock.
For all my years of connecting the dots I confess I don't know where we are heading. I guess I am too obsessed with paying the bills and studying and trying to fit everything together like a puzzle and putting it into a box.
When we are desperate we pray for miracles. When they do come it is often at times of calm when we least expect them ....
