I don't know whether there's anyone around who practices astrology, but if you're hiding in there and have an opinion about different house systems please come out and tell me what you think I have been studying astrology for about 30 years, my first tutor used the Placidus house system and I have automatically followed her lead, but recently a new forum has been started by a seemingly very capable astrologer who uses Whole house and quite a lot of what she says would make it seem a very accurate system. There are a few exceptions when I can't see how Whole house portrays my own personal life description and experiences however, but it has left me wondering which is the best to use. All thoughts would be very welcome, thanks

Hi Hera, I think maybe Ace might be able to tell you something. I don't know much about Astrology. hahaha Anyway, let me share about something I've learned from one of the ancient prediction system, I Ching or book of changes. I had studied it for 30 years but stopped it many years ago. I even wrote a book about it, in my language. This meant I did believe it and found that astrology and predicton system were incredibly very ture. But the reason I stopped learning about it...hmmm...let me put it this way, it somehow depressed me? hahaha Let me give you an example, before I drove on the street, if I knew in advance that there would be a pedestrian walked this way and made that car turning to my way and hit my car, that seemed to be good, right? For more than 30 years, I believed it was good. Not to mention that I ching was not only about predicting the future but about self-realization/enlightenment (which seemed to be the heart/core of it). My point is that what if, even I knew that in advance that car still came to hit my car? No, I didn't believe in fix/destine fate. It's just that I've also got my spiritual practice longer than the the time I studied I Ching. So my focus was shifted from preventing the bad things to happen (and attracting only goods thing) to preparing for anything whether they are good or bad. Let me stress here that I have no doubt that Astrology is so helpful. So does I Ching. Everyone should study them, if they have chance. P.S. Recently our forum is a bit quiet. So hope you don't mind I replied your post without any helpful answeres. Besides, if I didn't reply something how could I ell you that I already read you post?

I appreciate your taking the time to reply to this donq and also your views about this which mirror my own in many ways. There are times when I curse having the knowledge that there are 'difficult' transits on the horizon which give a sense of impending doom if you take them seriously, which of course the ego loves to do. My purpose for learning in the first place was never for predictive purposes, rather for psychological understanding of those around me, which i'm sure you'll agree (?) is a very helpful tool for smoothing over bumps in relating to people. Interestingly, just yesterday a renowned astrologer posted on You Tube about her belief that there is great synchronicity between what we think, believe and do and planetary movements and she is tying it into quantum mechanics which is something I have been trying to connect for a while now, scratching my head, trying to find a connection and lo and behold this clip appeared on my screen unsought for while I was watching something else which amused me inasmuch as it lends credence to the Biblical quote ' Ask and it will be given to you; Seek and ye will find, Knock on the door and it will be opened to you', so perhaps my seeking will find some answers when I read her book which I ordered immediately of course

Hi Hera,
Thanks for your understanding. For the last some years I've found that I was always misunderstood in one way or another. When I post my reply to you somehow I was a bit afraid that you might misunderstand me. But you didn't. Thanks.
You said, "There are times when I curse having the knowledge that there are 'difficult' transits on the horizon which give a sense of impending doom if you take them seriously, which of course the ego loves to do."
I like it!. More than agree. It reminds me of Ecclesiastes 1:18 (King James Version):
For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.
You said, "My purpose for learning in the first place was never for predictive purposes, rather for psychological understanding of those around me, which i'm sure you'll agree (?) is a very helpful tool for smoothing over bumps in relating to people."
-Hmm...I used the wrong word when I was talking about astrology. Sorry. I only meant in the brord sense. So, yes, more than agree. Never for predictive purposes. As for I Ching, it has something to do with psychological understanding of the one who is reading it. So, I'm more than agree with you on this. :-)
As for synchronicity and quantum mechanics, I also had spent decades trying to undertstand them. It that cat (Schrodinger's) dead or alive? Do we need Wigner's friend? The point is for those who are studying astrology (or I ching) they will have to deal with these connections and encounter lots and lots of synchronicities. You might have heard this saying, "When the student is ready, the teacher will appear." Though I'm still confused about its source. Was it an ancient Chinese saying or saying of the Buddha? hahaha So many times, I walked into the bookstores (mostly secondhand ones...urh...a lot cheaper) and found the books I needed unexpectedly. For many years I had tried to understand these connections (synchronicity) and finally brought me to quantum mechanics.
Anyway, there was one story that really fastinated me.
Jung, who coined the word "synchronicity" told a story of a drought being broken in a village in China by a Taoist rainmaker.
There was a great drought where Wilhelm (Richard wilhelm who transated I Ching into German and Cary F. Baynes into English) lived; for months there had not been a drop of rain and the situation became catastrophic. The Catholics made processions, the Protestants made prayers, and the Chinese burned joss-sticks and shot off guns to frighten away the demons of the drought, but with no result. Finally, the Chinese said, "We will fetch the rain-maker". And from another province a dried up old man appeared. The only thing he asked for was a quiet little house somewhere, and there he locked himself in for three days. On the fourth day the clouds gathered and there was a great storm at the time of the year when no rain was expected, an unusual amount, and the town was so full of rumours about the wonderful rain-maker that Wilhelm went to ask the man how he did it. In true European fashion he said: ‘They call you the rain-maker; will you tell me how you made the rain?’ And the rain-maker said: ‘I did not make the rain; I am not responsible.’ ‘But what have you done these three days?’ ‘Oh, I can explain that. I come from another country where things are in order. Here they are out of order; they are not as they should be by the ordinance of heaven. Therefore, the whole country is not in Tao, and I also am not in the natural order of things because I am in a disordered country. So, I had to wait three days until I was back in Tao and then naturally the rain came.’
P.S. Recently the spelling check of our forum doesn't work any more. I have to apologize for errors and typos (more than usual).

Thank you so much donq, isn't it pleasing when you find someone who is on the same page as you (metaphorically).
This walk through the world can be lonely especially when you have different views and beliefs to the majority so to read your thoughts about this has been enormously uplifting.
Take good care and know much peace donq.

Thanks, Hera, for your kind words. Yes, living in peace is what I need. As life after debt have made me living in pieces, indeed!

Hi again Donq,
So the book arrived and it's everything I could have asked for and more. So many questions answered and much clarified. This is after just the first chapter, I haven't started on the specifics of astrology yet and they seem irrelevant now, as what I was searching for turns out to be outside that paradigm anyway.
I would urge you to try and get hold of a copy, perhaps you have a library where you could borrow a copy if you don't wish to buy it, as I feel sure it would speak to you of great truth in our spiritual quest.
Ooops, I nearly forgot to tell you the name:
How to Co-Create using the Secret Language of The Universe by Pam Gregory.

This one, right?: It seems to be fun. The sign looks like a headphone. Don't know if I could find a copy in my country. Ordering it is not my option (I haven't had any credit card for a very long time). Anyway, I'll try to find it. Thanks Hera.

Yes that's the one Donq, but, as I think I said before, the astrology seems almost beside the point; for me her explanation of the history of man, how we are inextricably linked to the universe and the meaning of how we are evolving seems far more relevant and important - for me anyway

Hi Hera,
I just came across this older string of posts on Forum written in early Aug when I was away in Montana.. the recent button doesn't seem to work anymore on Forum.....so also see their was a bunch of posts on Buddhism heading I didn't read over also..... Mostly I only looked a first two categories on Forum which were most commonly being used recently.
I have gotten into the habit of mostly using the Placidus system which seems to work for me, my life and my chart and in how I am using astrology symbolism via House placements -- years ago I knew other astrologers who were into the Koch very much --- which I looked at but Placidus seemed to work better for me.
I think we are a multi-leveled vibrational beings of consciousness and astrology energies are more aligned with certain states of consciousness within us then others. It seems to have a strong influence over our personality levels of our being ( the Physical and Etheric, Emotional, and Mental "framework" of our psychological makeup). Some believe even our Soul consciousness has astrological or Ray consciousness of differences and that all Souls are not all the same in make-up and how they manifest within us. Beyond and including all levels mentioned are Higher levels of the all-inclusive Spirit is where we align beyond all differences into One unified wholeness of Being. We are indeed multi-faceted.
have looked at and read a few books years ago on the "headphone" (lol) north-south nodes of consciousness in chart as some of many indications in chart of giving one a glimpse into what and how they "may" be manifesting in this lifetime. Can give us indications of what issues may be challenging one's and also avenues where we can shine. Giving us indications what and where we ( being our higher consciousness) choose to work on and with who we are doing it with.
peace
