What is a premonition? A premonition is a feeling, an idea that seems to come out of nowhere. This feeling is often accompanied by a strong sense of foreboding, as if something bad or unpleasant is about to happen. The words precognition and prophecy are often linked to premonition, because they also belong to the extrasensory ability to see into the future. The differences between precognition, premonition, and prophecy are that, precognition generally involves knowledge of a future event; while premonition involves the sense or feeling that something is going to happen. Precognition and prophecy can occur through a variety of forms. Through visions, feelings of deja vu or through the medium of our dreams. It may also occur spontaneously in waking visions and auditory hallucinations. Precognitive knowledge can also be induced through trance, channeling and mediumship. Have you ever had the feeling that something is wrong, and two minutes later the phone rings and you are told a loved one has been in an accident or just been rushed into hospital. There are many instances of people waking up in the night with a feeling of dread and concern about a family member. To be told the following morning that that person passed away suddenly in the night. At exactly the same time that you woke up. The terrorist attacks of September 11th 2001. The Japanese tsunami. The sinking of the Titanic. These were unfathomable disasters that cost thousands of lives, and yet some people claim that they had premonitions that foretold these catastrophic events. That on the days those events occurred, filled with a terrible sense of foreboding they could not explain, found reasons to avoid being where those tragedies occurred. If you are prone to premonitions, that often come true. Why not begin to document them. Write them down in a diary or journal. Often it is difficult to convince people about the truth of these experiences. By writing them down as they occur, you have a way of proving to others, that what is happening to you is real. The same could be said for those of you who have episodes of precognition and prophecy. Be sure to note the time and date that you experienced it. Try to be as thorough as you can in the description of your premonition, including as many specific details as you can recall. It's sometimes difficult to describe feelings, but do your best. Describe locations, people, names, landmarks, shapes, colours, smells, temperatures and emotions that you sensed. It is important that you Guard against filling out or adding to your descriptions with things you didn't really sense. Try be as accurate and honest as you can. If you believe your premonition has been fulfilled. Even if it is not 100 percent accurate. It may be that there is still be enough correct detail to verify the authenticity of your prediction. I believe that the gift of premonition, precognition and prophecy is a mixed blessing. Many people have said that to have a vision of the future can be a difficult burden to bear. Particularly when they are about events that cause pain, death and mayhem. They often ask. Why am I given the ability to know or see these things, and yet have no power to prevent them? I think it is important to understand that though little is understood about how the power of premonition and foresight works. I believe it is connected to the link we have on a super conscious level to the world around us. On a telepathic and energetic vibration. It is simply a psychic development of the senses. That some people have, that they can no more turn off then their hearing or sight. Historically seers, prophets and visionaries were revered and respected. In many instances, their ability to see into the future could be very helpful to their people. Visions of drought or famine, might have given their communities time to store away more provisions for lean times. Or the threat of war, might enable them to strengthen and fortify their homes and cities. To be more vigilant. In modern times, we can use those intuitive feelings to protect ourselves. Nothing about the future is set in stone. Have you yourself or someone you know ever had a premonition? I would love to hear your stories and views about this fascinating subject. Love and light Kaz

My premonitions, always of death, come in the form of dreams and i'd really prefer not to have them but of course we have no control over these things. Interestingly, I was watching TV today and a presenter was describing her premonition of 9/11 the day before it happened. Synchronicity Side tracking slightly Ace, I wonder if there is something happening astrologically that would indicate this topic being discussed. Oh, perhaps the mars/jupiter conjuntion in Scorpio at the moment? Also in the TV discussion mention was made of quantum physics which is waaay too scientific for this little brain lol, but it kind of made sense, inasmuch as we are all (quantum physicists profess) operating in different points of time, so some of us are able to experience events both before and after they happen, i.e. somehow they are there when it happens. If there are any quantum physicists on the forum who want to explain better that would be great

HI Hera... not sure if there is any astrological aspect which is currently bringing the subject of premonition to forefront for you. Or maybe is the play of synchronicity playing out in your own mind and life now.. attracting same energy and ideas into your consciousness. I don't particularity see Mars and Jupiter combining related to synchronicity,,, (but what do I know?). Maybe it is just the energy of Jupiter by itself in Scorpio which can increase psychic tendencies in some people while it is transiting. Sagittarius and it's ruler Jupiter are considered connected to predictions and perhaps to premonitions also. Giving Far-Sightedness of Mind and the Imaging quality in humans of the higher mind.
The Quantum question Hera.. is that it all exists in a Universal Here-Now moment. If one can truly be One with "That" all time as we know it disappears but ultimately also contains all existence past and future. But only a truly Awakened Being would be able to perceive it or lets say be ONE with that knowledge.
just my two cents.

Hi Karen, Ace and Hera, First, Let me say Happy New year. Sorry a much too late. As for me, precognition and premonition are the same. They are about foreknowledge/foresight or knowing/sensing/feeling something beforehand. And my excuse is English is not my first language. For example, How do experienced fishermen and ants know beforehand that a storm is coming? And then, we look closer at a coincidence. I was going to say something and my friend just said it. I was thinking about someone, then, he/she showed up, or called. i was walking in the booksore and just found the book I really wanted to read (even I completely forgot about it) etc. etc. And when talking about (meaningful) coincidence we often think of Jung who coined the word synchronicity. I'd like to mention another one here. Paul Kammerer (1880-1926), an Austrian biologist (Lamarckism),who wrote a remarkable work, Das Gesetz der Sene-the (law of seriality) in 1919. But as fas as I know, there's still no English translation even now. I read about his work from some other books. Here it is: Kammerer's book contains a hundred samples of coincidences. For instance: (7) On September 18, 1916, my wife, while waiting for her turn in the consulting rooms of Prof. Dr.j.v.H.,reads the magazine Die Kunst; she is impressed by some reproductions of pictures by a painter named Schwalbach, and makes a mental note to remember his name because she would like to see the originals. At that moment the door opens and the receptionist calls out to the patients: "Is Frau Schwalbach here? She is wanted on the telephone." (22) On July 28, 1915, I experienced the following progressive series: (a) my wife was reading about "Mrs. Rohan", a character in the novel "Michael" by Hermann Bang; in the tramway she saw a man who looked like her friend, Prince Josef Rohan; in the evening Prince Rohan dropped in on us. (b) In the tram she overheard somebody asking the pseudo-Rohan whether he knew the village of Weissenbach on Lake Attersee, and whether it would be a pleasant place for a holiday. When she got out of the tram, she went to a delicatessen shop on the Naschmarkt, where the attendant asked her whether she happened to know Weissenbach on Lake Attersee-he had to make a delivery by mail and did not know the correct postal address. There's a cliché (from skeptics) that there's no such thing as coincidence. They are (partly) right. As coincidence is another aspect of foreknowledge/foresight. Someone who had foreknowledge/foresight but might not know it yet, when such and such thing happened, they thought it was just a Coincidence. P.S. To Hera, I don't know about the connection of quantum physics and foreknowledge but I used to read that if you tickle en electron here, another electron that is so far far way is still feel it. Really, I didn't make this up.
