Okay that title was just a clickbait(just kidding) forgive me.
But it is similar to the topic which i am going to share with you which is "What is meaning of god according to common hindu people who aren't scholar in Vedas, Upanishads, or any other scripture "(very long title huh )
I learned about Hinduism online as most of westerners do(but i am Indian ). But if you want real in depth knowledge of vedas then you will have to became a student of a Vedic scholars. If you master all four vedas then you also get a title called "Chaturvedi" or "scholar of four vedas" .
But why should one go to a scholar instead of studying it online? well vedas were not intended to be studying online or reading from books. They were meant to be taught by teacher to student verbally.(if i am wrong please let me know i am not a scholar )
This bond between teacher and student is very auspicious in Hinduism. The teacher or Guru is considered as a form of god himself to the student. Guru is the one who brings student to light of spirituality. It said that "god may not forgive you but teacher would ".
Okay now next bond which important in Hinduism is between mother and child. It is considered as an eternal bond. Mother is also considered as a form of God that is why we (all hindus!) were taught to touch feet of mother and teacher. Feet touching is normally done to idol of god which means taking blessing , respect or simply "gaining wisdom from higher potential to lower potential by touching feet." You can also bow to them (if you think touching feet is gross ) .The same goes to father .
And the most important bond which is (i think) still followed by people is host and guest. "Atiti devo Bhava" or Guest is God is the motto of this bond. My elders used to say in old times if you go to rural villages the people were so friendly that they might not let you go without eating some food!. That is/was the spirit .
These were four god-persons in one hindu's life but are there more?
These bonds are still in practice (i guess? ) are there more gods ?
The most basic knowledge of hinduism that is understood by non-scholar hindus is "God resides in everything animate and inanimate things in this universe"
If we shall considered there are infinite particles in this universe then aren't there infinite gods? This is a very common mistake which previous Indologists failed understand . The more things we worship doesn't mean we are polytheists.
The nirguna (formless) can have many saguna (not formless) forms.
The main concept of hindusim is to worship that one nirguna, that one vishnu, that one shiva , that one adi purusha , that one
Para-Brahman and see him in each other, each living non-living thing, and in this entire creation.
If you see God in everything around with true respect and love, you get liberated in a second.
This kind of Bhakti frees you from shackles of karma.
As our beloved lord Krishna says

As our beloved lord Krishna says
Whatever celestial form
a devotee chooses to worship with reverence,
I stabilize the faith of that particular devotee
in that very form.(Ch7:21)
The devotees , however ,
who loving no one else constantly think of Me,
and worship Me in a disinterested spirit,
to those ever united in thought with Me,
I bring full security and personally attend to their needs.(ch9:22)
