Vegetating last night looking at the TV; watching The Wolfman on ME TV hosted by Svengoolie: the subject of movie makeup was discussed and rather it was such a painful ordeal. Rumors seem to go with Hollywood too easily. It is assumed without question that little fish hooks and small finishing nails were at times expedient even as the actors were prevented from even being able to go to the bathroom for hours on end whilst wearing their costumes. Okay it could get rough but a lot of jobs are like that. But was it really that gruesome?
At one of my local meetings the Master Jesus was being discussed and I asked if there was really a crucifixion death and more to the point if the rejected messiah - which is so pivotal to the Christian dogma - was just something needed to "spice up" the Gospel and make it more appealing. That is hardly a single isolated subject and there are many accounts of prophets unappreciated. It gets very physical with the rejected corner stone the builders left out by mistake. I was told there was an ingrained assumption by the human race that heroes and villains were what we are and want to expect. Angels and demons; masters and slaves; good and evil; one extreme or the other!
Some what oddly there are some accounts the Master Jesus went over to the so-called New World after his stint in the Middle East and teached to the inhabitants there. The Native Americans were not so hostile it would seem. I don't recall the Buddha was tossed out of town when he showed up. But many religions did start riots when first introduced.
Which begs the question: do we as human beings have a deep hidden conviction that we know what we need but don't want to accept unless it goes down hard. Really hard. Fire and brimstone hard as nails and kill the messengers when they first show up. If so then a REAL prophet should expect to get stoned once in awhile. It leads to their authenticity.
It can also lead to a self fulfilled prophecy ....and a rewriting of ancient history. Even more to the point is rather one needs to be a martyr or just be willing to be one to prove themselves?
