Every morning while having breakfast, I usually tune into a spiritual talk on you tube, one morning browsing through the listings of spiritual teachers, I came across a certain teacher, and instantly dismissed him, "nah, I don't like him", and selected someone else.
Over the course of the next few days, it kept coming back to me, why don't you like him, you've never even listened to him, and then it dawned on me, he didn't fit in with my idea of what a spiritual teacher should be, you'd think I would be happy with this tiny little breakthrough, no. I was furious, I had let outward appearances stop me from even entertaining another, the more I thought about it, the more annoyed I became, how many other areas, am I stuck in old out dated beliefs.
The next morning I sat down and listened to a clean shaven young man, half my age talk about spirituality, what's more I couldn't fault anything he said, apart from that, there are a few issues, just minor, I have with certain spiritual ideals, he answered them all or was directly in line with how I felt.
I have always had an issue with, we are down here to realise who we are and return to source, for me that doesn't make sense, that's a waste of time. I have always seen God as creative and expanding, returning to source been only part of the deal, I see the main cause as us learning who we are, putting that into effect to create and expand further, life is meant to be dynamic, constantly moving, we are here to learn how to create, from inside, and this goes on and on, and on, let your imagination run with it.
Why would God, wanting to know himself, then separate a part of himself, only to have it return, so as not to know himself again.
Which brings individuality into the equation, so we all have unique creative experiences, in order to create, there must be desire.
But old traditions tell us to desire is not right, renounce materialism, want nothing and be nothing in this world.
Remove all desires, destroy the ego and what is left is divine, don't entertain the past or the future, be here now, fully in this moment.
If we were sent to a material world, to learn how to ignore it, staying in the now, to return to not knowing, seems like we just short circuited the journey, it's like taking a bus trip to the sea side, on arrival not getting out of the bus and traveling back again.
Don't get me wrong, I have always been a big fan of "the power of now", and yes it does seem to work, been in the zone, not worrying about the past or future, feels great, but I have issues with it, I have often questioned is it just denial, and when you slip out of the now everything returns as it was, my other concern is, have you ever noticed if you remain in the now, nothing seems to happen, it's as if life has been put in neutral.
We are led to believe, that our thoughts create our future, and we can only experience the future, now, in this moment, therefore it is past thoughts that create what we experience in the now, thought comes first then the experience, so if living in the now suspends thought, we have effectively stopped creating and more or less put ourselves in Groundhog Day mode.
Another old well used traditional spiritual term is, humble, to be humble.
Humble, to be subservient, to play down one's abilities.
Who exactly is it we are meant to be subservient to, if we are all created equal in the eyes of God.
If we are vibratory beings, does been subservient or to diminish our abilities, raise or lower our frequency.
I truly believe been humble serves only those who would like to control, governments, religious groups, or people who haven't done their own inner work and can now feel superior without even trying, yes the humble one, will be everyone's friend.
But if you can think for yourself and forge your own path, you will most likely ruff a few feathers along the way.
Old habits and out dated ideals, can and do hold us back, sometimes we lack the courage to pull ourselves out of the herd, for fear of offending others or standing alone, familiarity, always a warm blanket.
Life is dynamic, continuous expressions of creativity and expansion, that is what we are here for, but don't forget to be humble.
