There is endless, boundless, complete and utter freedom within you. It is always there, it is always available. The thing that obscures it is our own pre-conceptions about the world, ourselves and other people.
Do you remember being a child? You were almost unconsciously accepting the assumption that the type of person you were then would be the person you are in 5 years or in 10 years. However, as people grow up, they change and grow. Our identities are in constant flux and often you realize you are not the same person you were even a year ago. Heck, you’re basically a person every 7 years, since the majority of your cells die and get replaced!
As we grow older most of us realize how false this idea of a constant self is, because we are always being shaped into something new through our life experiences.
Do you remember being in a stressful situation that you were convinced would be a huge turning point of your life, or even have the capacity to end it? And where are you now? You have come out of that situation, you saw it through its culmination and dissolution, and you have made it to this point.
Do you remember meeting someone who really irked you, who drove you insane, who you thought you hated – but then you get to get to know them, and they turn out to be ok and even end up being a good friend?
The idea I’m trying to get at here is that all things are impermanent; all things come and go, all things will come into creation and are eventually destroyed. This is simply just the nature of the reality that we are in.
This is the reason why if you frequently get attached to things that are impermanent, you get caught in a ruthless cycle of suffering where you are constantly seeking that which brings you temporary pleasure but just as quickly leaves you, and it can be a miserable and dangerous place to be in.
