In the recent days, I have thought a lot and have realized that at different times in life, I have had to make a choice - a choice between pleasure and prayer. If I choose pleasure, I know that at the end, I may have pleasure and still more pleasure, but eventually, I will be robbed of all my peace because pleasures fulfilled do not end. Our greed grows and the flame becomes bigger. Our cravings and desires only increase. But prayer has a different route. Prayer builds a connection, it builds power. It also creates pleasure, but a different kind of pleasure; not a materialistic one that’s just physical, but an emotional and spiritual kind. The pleasure that comes from prayer doesn’t end. It changes and evolves to a stronger, more fulfilling thing. But unfortunately, when I look around me, I find more people, by the day, wanting unending pleasure. And even those who pray are praying because of pleasure. All their prayers are for pleasure and that’s all they seek. Very few people understand the true meaning of prayer, of connecting with God, connecting to the Power. They are the few who ultimately evolve to get that peace, fulfillment and tranquility that comes from Yoga or union with God. Connecting with the universal power has a tremendous amount of joy that no pleasure can fulfill.
