Sure, it’s a paradox that life is not just to live. Most people look at life as something given to us to consume - to live, to enjoy, to make the best of. But unfortunately, if one goes deeper into a spiritual search, one realizes that life is not just to live. The purpose of life is not merely to go from womb to tomb. Life is not a journey that one must pass day after day, week after week, month after month, for years to an end. So, what is life? Life is that opportunity given to us to be able to evolve, to grow, to realize who we are, to find out the truth - are we this body? Are we this mind? Are we the intellect? Are we the ego? Or are we something else? Are we that energy inside – the prana, the jeeva, the spirit, the atman, the soul? In reality, what are we? When the realization dawns, when we come to know the truth of what we are, who we are, then we’ll realize that life is not just to live. Life is meant to realize God. Life is meant to realize the truth. Life is meant to probe, to be curious, to ask questions, to go deeper, to find out from where we have come, where we will go and who we truly are - that is life. A very few are fortunate to truly discover life. The others, unfortunately, just live.
