We human beings fear death, but have we ever thought why we fear death? We fear death because we believe that we are the human body that will die. But in reality, we are not the human body. We say that this is my hand, this is my head, this is my mind. Who is that I? Who is that I who says that this is my body, this is my mind? That ‘I’ is very different from the body and the mind. The body will die but that ‘I’ continues to live. It is the ego that continues to live even after physical death. But because we believe that we are the physical body, we fear death. The ego has experienced life-times of pain that come with death and because of the memory of the pain that is associated with death, the ego fears death, and we as a complex of body, mind, spirit believing that we are the body-mind complex, fear death. The moment we realize that we are not the body or the mind, and that the body and the mind is but a garment, the fear of death will disappear. Once we realize that we are the Divine Spirit, we will understand that we do not die. We are immortal. We simply change clothes by changing bodies. When we leave one body on earth, we adorn another body as a result of our actions, our karmas and then the journey continues till we realize that we are the soul and the soul merges with the Creator, the Master. But for now, how does one escape from the fear of death? By continuously reminding ourselves that we are not this physical body but the Divine spirit.
