Something always bothered me about the religion I was born into, as if something was left out, we were not getting the whole picture, we blindly accepted excerpts, though symbolic in nature, still did not make sense.
Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, eating the fruit from the tree of knowledge, would now know good and evil, and become the same as them.
This fruit has always been portrayed as an apple, there maybe many varieties of apple in the world, and I have had the pleasure of ingesting a few! but never has my knowledge been increased, except maybe on the taste of the different varieties.
We can only conclude the Apple is symbolic, but symbolic of what? And it does pose the question, why did God not want us to have knowledge, while the serpent did.
It seemed, according to the scriptures, that people back then were far more in tune with the almighty, than we are today, halo's were evident in all artistic paintings, how did they see them, mystical experiences were far more common, from burning bushes, and visions,
to talking with the Almighty on mountain tops.
Were people far more pious back then, and we, have just become more disconnected.
How did Jesus get men to give up their livelihood and follow him, it seems that most, didn't really understand what he spoke, there must have been something that convinced, without intellectual understanding.
The last supper, celebrated in every Mass, obviously of high significance, communion, bringing people together as one.
Manna from heaven, food from the Gods that came overnight and arrived with the morning dew.
Shamanism a spiritual practise whereby one enters altered states of consciousness by drumming, dance, chanting and ingesting hallucinogenic substances. Shamanism is said to predate all known religion, shamans were healers, seers who travelled to other realms to gain knowledge from spirit allies to serve others and their community.
Siberian shaman used a mushroom with a red cap with white dots, amanita muscaria, when collecting these, they selected a central tree, where they placed the mushrooms to dry, less weight to carry, saved the mushrooms at the bottom of the bag been crushed, is this the origin of the Christmas tree. Once a year at Christmas the shaman delivered these to the community, if he could not enter through the normal means because of built up snow, common at this time of year, he would enter through the secondary entrance, the roof, puts a whole new meaning on Santa Claus, who has always been depicted as dressing in red and white, here the shaman would barter his wares, obviously tradition for the community this time of year. The shamans mode of transport, sled pulled by caribou ( reindeer).
Another aspect of tradition I found quite distasteful, was when reading of certain religious ceremony where one drank their own urine, some claim it has good health benefits, I can think of better ways to get healthy, one property of hallucinogenic mushrooms is it needs to pass through the human system in order to gain full potency, therein if one drinks their own urine after ingesting, the potency is increased, it has been stated this can be repeated five times. Turning water into wine?
Why are cows sacred in India, yes they give dairy products, their dung can be used as fertiliser, but probably less well known is that psilocybin mushrooms grow around cow dung.
These mushrooms come under many titles, shrooms, Liberty caps and the teacher.
I'am not suggesting people should run out and start ingesting mushrooms, there are many posinious varieties out there, but I do have experience of such, although many years ago, so do speak from some experience.
No, the main idea behind this post is to open up an adult conversation about something that seems to explain quite a lot of the possible origins of religion, if one wants to do their own research, it is widely available, the amount of photographic evidence from religious texts, art and stained glass is abundant and seems to prevail through many religions.
It has often been stated, that seeking mystical experiences through these means is a short cut, and while showing what can be obtained, does not show the way, many people would disagree with this statement, one property of these plants, been the undoing of the ego, they have been referred to as the teacher.
Again I emphasise, I'am not promoting the use of, in any way shape or form, there are many dangers waiting for those not ready for such experiences, I will leave it up to the moderators of this site, if they wish for this post to remain or not.
Food for thought.
