According to me, Spirituality is a study or introspection or contemplation of the Spirit. The Spirit, the Soul, the Atman, (called by different names), it is one and the same. It is that Power, that Energy that dwells within the body, giving it the Power to move, to live. It is like what electricity is to the bulb; it makes the bulb glow. It is like what electricity is to the air conditioner, or a motor to any gadget. It gives life to the gadget. The Spirit is what Life gives to us.
We start our journey when the spirit comes into this world. But we know what death is, we can see the body which is absolutely same, as it was, when it was alive, and now, as it is, after it is dead. And the only thing missing seems to be a Power, the Energy, we call Spirit, we call Soul or Atman.
Spirituality is being able to not just go deep into the conscious and subconscious mind but to touch the superconscious domains of our creative thinking to try to connect with the Universal satellite, to draw information, hunches and thoughts. But what is the Spirit? Who are we? This is the question every religion challenges to ask, to find out and to ponder upon. And this is what exactly is Spirituality is!
Spirituality is not just silence or meditation. What is the purpose of silent meditation? You should be able to connect with the Power within when you meditate. Every form of Spirituality goes beyond religion. Religion is a belief based on a particular God because we have been taught that this Power, this Picture is God. But Spirituality goes one step further. It makes us ask the questions, “If you are God, where are you? Where can I meet you? Where did I come from? Where will I go? What is the purpose of my Life? Why have you created this world? What is the Soul? What is the Spirit?” These questions are that leads one in to this Journey of Spirituality.
