A friend of mine has just 'lost' his wife. How does he find a good medium, without wasting time and money on all the ineffectual mediums out there?

Hi itanhaem. My sincere and heartfelt sympathies to your friend at the loss of his wife. You ask a good question. Whilst I believe that there are some individuals who have a genuine gift of communicating with spirit. There are many who do not. And take advantage of people when they are at their most vulnerable.
To ensure this does not happen to your friend. I would suggest he find out where his nearest spiritual church is. He can either attend and hope that a message comes through for him as part of the general service. Or he can ask if any of the regular atendee mediums, do private one- to-one sessions. Or if they could recommend someone who does it. Recommendation is definitely the way to go if he decides to find a medium privately. But rather than going through general advertisements, I would suggest he enquires amongst his circle of friends and acquaintances, to see if any of them have ever had a reading, and get feedback as to what their overall experience of the reading was like.
Personally I feel his best bet would be through the spiritual church. They are a non profit making organization and are purely concerned with providing good and authentic evidence that life continuous after death. I hope this helps and would really like to know how your friend gets on. Love and light Kaz

Dear itanhaem,
I agree with all Karen as said above but to give you another angle, I have found through my own experience and others I have spoken to and have read about, that spirit of our loved ones can make contact with us directly, between 3 weeks up to 2 years and beyond after passing over. I am not saying this will happen to your friend, it would depend on how open he is to contact and what he would perceive as contact or a message.
From what I have read, most spirits that pass over suddenly or before their time, usually try and make contact with those they didn’t get chance to say goodbye to. It is also important to know that some spirits may try and make contact but are unable to, due to the low vibration of their loved one, mainly due to grief, hence the time span mentioned above.
Once again I am not saying that will happen for your friend, but it’s something to be aware of. Also there is no guarantee that a medium will make contact either. Sometimes mediums can pick up from the ether the essence of a loved one’s spirit, like personality, likes and dislikes, memories etc but that does not mean that direct contact with a loved one’s spirit has been made. These are all important to know and to understand, as when someone is desperate for a message or contact their judgement can become clouded over and they can then grab onto anything that feels like they can reconnect to their loved one. This can lead to an unhealthy obsession with mediums/psychics.
I hope this information is of some help to you and your friend. And I am also very sorry for your friend’s loss. It is not easy to lose a loved one at any time as there is no right time to lose someone. You seem a good friend and your friend will probably need your friendship and support especially in the coming weeks and months. There is no timescale to grief and no rules either, it is a very personal experience that many can sympathise, but only those effected can truly experience for themselves. I also would like to know how your friend gets on and I pray he gets what he needs to help him deal with his grief.
Love and Light

My limited experience in channelers or sensitives suggests they in fact have a hard time getting students. Not so much clients as people willing to study and learn from them over an extended period of time. I suppose there is nothing wrong with specific requests for assistance but it also suggests the proverbial "one night stand". I am amazed how many attend my local meetings once and we never see them again. So to answer the question: some persons with these "special" abilities need to charge a significant amount of money for their services just to make a living and support themselves. Not surprisingly they advertise like any other business. If their services are not beneficial or competitive they soon go out of business.
But some of the others do this on a part times basis as a favor or service at their convenience. In that case it is not so much finding them - they were already in your life if that is what you wanted - as it is discovering what "secret" or hidden abilities they possessed you never realized before. Alas finding these people when you are in grief and most vulnerable is the worst time to start doing it. So I would agree with the other posts here and advise letting some time go by and not seek immediate help or contact as if it was "now or never".

A lot depends on the country you live in, if you live in the UK, you could try the nearest SNU Spiritualist church, listed here SNU Churches There are similar Churches in America and Canada, or if they cannot wait, they could try the advert below, which will get you through to phone psychics. It is always best to go on recommendations, so either way, research someone first.

Many thanks for your replies - I shall advise my friend accordingly - meanwhile, if anybody would like to recommend a medium, please do so - my friend lives in Yorkshire, but he pays occasional visits to London.
