Dreams are wonderful avenues for finding out about ourselves. Sparklekaz, samy03, and others have talked about them, to the end of greater Awareness of what we dream, and why. Those who interpret dreams for others (I don’t) recognize that our minds have what I call ‘default buttons’, or symbols, that represent somewhat similar issues for All.
Often I spend about 30 minutes minutes relaxed, listening to quiet, meditative music etc before sleeping but the other night, for the Very last 5 minutes I thought about paying bills. Urgh. Sure enough, I dreamed about being hunted and chased by a T-Rex. Seriously?! I know better than to think about 'scary' things before sleeping, lol.....( I haven't been chased in a dream in a long time!)
The experience of ‘being chased’ is a default in our minds for feeling we have some kind of Problem that we can't seem to get away from. Our dreams may create a monster, or scary person, or T-Rex (!) but it's all the same thing - they are just Creations by our minds that show how we are Struggling with something in our waking life that seems to be out of control and With us, all the time. In my case it was money and bills, lol - but all Kinds of issues can create this, especially interpersonal ones. It might be a family member, co-worker, friend or Anyone who overwhelms us in certain ways, causing us to Worry about the relationship on a regular basis.
It doesn't even have to be something Direct. It can be something abstract like an obsession we have that we really don't like (gambling, for example) or any Other issue that we feel is with us all the time but too big for us to get a handle on. It may show up as a 'scary monster' or something in a dream sometimes.
So many of us may not be Able to change our circumstances (like the bills, or an ongoing relationship w/family or job) but whenever we Can change it, it's a Healthy course of action. Here are some ideas:
Take a break from the intimidating person. Do your best to take control of the obsession, if there is one. And while you're waiting to do That, take some quality time for yourself JUST before sleeping and Forget that issue.
Whether we meditate, listen to peaceful music, read a Really funny book, have a cup of tea and just Breathe, we benefit greatly by becoming completely focused on Positive, peaceful things in the last part of our day. (I try for 30 minutes) It'll spill over to your dream life, honest.
Another example of a ‘default’ dream symbol is that of boats, which often represent our emotional state, and the control we have over them. These past few months have been a time of increased change and growth for me in certain areas – a big one being the control of my emotions. So for example, this issue showed up in a dream the other night:
I lived in a ramshackle home in the woods, bordered on three sides by overgrowth and undeveloped land that belonged to someone who had been Far Away, for a long time….but very soon a nice new house was being built, outbuildings and workshops, even landscaping of the previously unattended property bordering the driveway Out….and ALL of it – the house, outbuildings and the entire property itself – looked like Boats. (I never knew anyone could DO so much with boats, lol)
Sometimes our minds will offer us more than One symbol to strengthen the same overall Message: to make Sure I had not missed the point in the Same dream, my mind also showed me twin girls playing with kittens outside of the house, complete with roof leaks I had to take care of.
Dreams can be frightening or uncomfortable for us but they do not have to be Confusing or unknown; often they are just the ‘default’ expressions of our waking states. Dreams offer very Personal, practical ‘insight therapy’ into issues we do not always even Recognize are taking place in our lives. If you come here to read or visit and are Concerned by frightening, recurring or confusing dreams you have, don’t be afraid to Ask here – Sparklekaz or another can help Show you what is happening
