This is a very complex subject in which I have only limited understanding. What I do know I will share.
I will assume that we all believe in God no matter the name that we assign to "Him". The Creator is a being (really a large group of beings) who are so high above the human stage that it is incomprehensible to us. Our minds, even our heavenly minds, are wholly inadequate in this area. Souls in heaven usually refer to God as "the source". But I'll call it God and make it a male because that is what we are used to.
It is true that the universe and everything in it came into being via the Word of God. This refers to "word" in the esoteric sense. Think of it as a dynamic embodiment of Divine Will. That is satisfactory. What we are not taught is that creation, once begun, has never stopped. It continues in fact. The "word" has never stopped resonating. This is the force which drives both spiritual and physical evolution. It is the great "Intelligent Design" that we hear about so often in Christian teachings.
For the next part of this topic may we assume that although God is omnipresent He needs a construction in the universe, a means by which appropriate guidance to the whole may be provided. This is nothing less than a means of one way communicative transmission of guidance. Thus we find, in our studies, that there are directed forces in existence. We call them "rays". These originate in the mind of God but are directed towards their ethereal counterparts which are starss. Suns, all of them, are localized centers of creation. The directives from the "Father" arrive in a solar system though the involvement of these great spiritual centers. Note that on a physical level they are balls of fire which emit various energies. On higher levels though they are much, much more. The ancients knew this and this is the reason our history is filled with so many "sun gods". Those old timers knew what they were talking about but we have moved to monotheism. We no longer revere many gods. What this evolutionary movement meant is that now instead of worshiping a "god in a sun" we came to recognize the single God which is behind it all. So we can see that although ancient mysticism was accurate it was doomed to be replaced by higher truths. In recent times Christianity has served us by bringing us to higher truths. But all this is esoteric only. It doesn't matter, really. Simply believing in God and being good is more than adequate for us to get where we're going.
More about rays.
These originate in the mind of God and come to us via stars. Usually groups of stars because they are better focused through when the "transmitting lens" is three dimensional. This is why, in astrology we refer to constellations as we do. I'll move a little faster now. The reason constellations are given names is for convenience in tabulation. We need to organize it before we can recognize and wield it. Each sign (group of stars) has a dedicated ray. On the other side of the constellations the rays are a single force. It is only the interaction with these groups of stars that divides them up into the desired segments. How does this happen? How does a star have such discriminating power over a ray? Remember the creative forces of God. Remember also that a physical star is also a spiritual center. Each star in a group of stars is physical, ethereal, astral, mental.... all the way to Divine (Monadic plane). Each is different than it's mates. These differences can be interpreted as divisions in resonance. Therefore because groups of stars will only vibrate at a certain rate only a part of the great force from God will pass through each. Each of the twelve constellations is on a different frequency therefore there are twelve major divisions in the rays. That is not hard to understand. As our planet moves 'round the sun it passes to each in turn. At any time one of these will be dominant. This is a primary reason for the work that astrologers do. But how, exactly, does it work? How, exactly, is a man different depending upon where and when he was born? The answer to this is very simple. Now the rays come to Earth all the time from any of them but because of the positioning of the Earth in relation to our sun one of the rays will be dominant. I have not forgotten the planets and other celestial bodies which are involved. They are all down stream from the major influences which come to us via constellations. They serve as localized filters and provide "fine tuning" only.
The common or personality based astrology.
Now for the means by which a man is conditioned by the time and place of his birth. This, too, is easy to understand but it is not commonly taught. It is doubtful that astrologers know about it. It is as follows. We've all heard of our relationship with God. At times we may invoke "Him" in prayer. We all have heard of this. We invoke and God evokes in response. God also evokes through the rays. God's purpose in creating humanity is that we should compliment his great existence by eventually cooperating with the creative effort through our own work. We can't do this yet but we will. That period for humanity lays in the future. It will be after we've grown. Christianity refers to it as the fifth or "Kingdom of God". Only perfected humans are a part of that conscious cooperative effort.
Now for more.
In order that a man, and thus the soul, becomes perfected it is necessary for him to experience every possible variation as a human being. These variations are coordinated by God via the rays then for that very reason. How is a man affected by a ray? What is it about birth place and time that is so very important? I'll finally answer this question. We are physical and ethereal beings while here on Earth. The physical invokes and evokes through breathing. Air in... changed air out. The ethereal body also respires in similar manner. Each time we breathe our ethereal counterpart is also breathing. This is the science behind breathing exercises that we may have heard of. The ethereal, however, breathes energy instead of air. Energy in and energy out. Now consider the ethereal body of an unborn baby. The baby is not yet breathing. This means the baby's ethereal body is also quiescent. At the moment of birth the baby suddenly takes a first breath. The baby's ethereal body also takes a first breath. The ethereal body "breathes in" the ray forces which are dominant at that moment. The result of this is that the baby's ethereal body is now "booted up" or "conditioned" for the rest of it's life. This is the esoteria behind the ordinary study of astrology. This is so very elegant. Does it make sense to the reader? Can we begin to understand the science behind the outer practice?
Now so far we've talked about astrology for the man. We need to that there are other astrologies. Nations of men are included. The Earth as a whole is included too. They are not included here because we usually consider only the single human when we cast a chart.
There is something more. We have been concerned with a lower form of astrology. There is also a higher. In the future the great wheel in the heavens will reverse it's direction and a higher form will begin. This will signify humanity's entrance to the "return path". This, too, is tied to the Kingdom of God. We're not there yet so saying more is pointless. It is sufficient to know that astrologers should make the effort to study "esoteric astrology". This preparation is well worth their efforts.
Note of interest. I have said that the ethereal body breathes energy. An example of this that we all can relate to is in the practice of martial arts. We've all seen a person preparing to do something like break a heavy brick with his/her forehead or hand or something like that. Watch closely and note that the man breathes purposefully just before making his move. Through this directed work great amounts of energy are collected in his ethereal body. Then, using his concentrated mind, the energy is directed towards the work to be done. The hand hits the brick and it breaks and the hand is not hurt. The strong accumulation of energy in one place acted upon the inherent, static energy in the brick and overcame it. That's all there is to it. Energy invocation and evocation. Have we heard stories about people, who, in a panic have performed great feats of strength? This is how they managed it. The fact that they didn't know how it happened is moot. There are many other examples.
Note... this manipulation of energy is also closely related to an act of creation. Remembering that mind can work upon the matter of any plane on which the man is functional we can see the methodology used.
In God's created universe something from nothing is impossible. Not even God will ever make something from "nothing". In fact the concept of "nothing" is illogical. There really is no such thing as magic. Everything that happens has an understandable reason. I like to write about the mechanics of spirituality.
Blessings to us all.
Note to the reader. Since I am not an astrologer I do most of my posting on the Spiritual Forum at this site. I hope this is of interest to the reader.
