Pluto: Planet of Death, Transformation and Rebirth
Pluto is another Trans-Saturnian subterranean planetary energy and like its brother and sister Uranus and Neptune its true archetype and manifestation lives beyond and transcends the selfish limiting ego. When using its power and energy for self gain it has many negative manifestations and trap doors. When one is able to integrate its power with selfless aims – it’s qualities can be a powerful and wonderful tools for Healing and Transformation. Pluto is about real Magic and Invocation and Higher Divine Will.
Pluto ( called Hades in Greek mythology) is in charge of the underworld and the realm of death, the bardo states and life between lives and those who have passed beyond.
(There was no direct music on Pluto on "The Planets" by Gustave Holst" so I picked this resurrectional music by Strauss because it had the feeling of Rebirth to me)
Pluto deals with the hidden shadowy aspects of the human psyche and the world. In Uranus we dealt with the energy and aspect of change. But with Pluto it has more to do with the destruction and death of what was there before in order to lay the foundation for the new to be born or reborn. The symbolism is the Phoenix rising from its ashes.
While Uranus interrupts normal reality and Neptune confuses ordinary reality by exposing one to other realities, Pluto can symbolize a complete breakdown in ordinary reality ( be it through a disaster, a war or just within inner states of mind). Such a breakdown forces one not only to deal with an alternative reality, but even to build a new day-to-day reality out of it.
Pluto is considered the Higher Octave of the Mars energy. Here the fiery passions of Mars are taken to a different level with Pluto. Pluto on the spiritual level also deals with the mystery and transformational secrets of the Kundalini force. One must be prepared on the mental, emotional and physical levels for Kundalini to rise or it can wreck havoc on all these levels if one is not prepared in advance.
Pluto’s energy is that it is a catalyst for change and metamorphosis, redemption and resurrection. Pluto’s energy is not the Light and Loving healing energy of Neptune - here the healing process is reveling and releasing the dark and dirty aspects and secrets of the human psyche and its physical manifestations. It is about cathartic radical transformations, release and healing at the core level which can happen.
The symbol which best describes how Pluto energy works is the atomic bomb. Although it’s physical size may be small it is filled with complex power and intensity, If it explodes ( Pluto represents certain issues may have been keep hidden - in individuals, groups, in countries and in the world etc) its ripples and ramifications journey outwardly from it centered compulsive point effecting all it touches (see picture below)
In the world and in individuals, Pluto can manifests it’s shadow issues of power and greed - with terrorism, torture, kidnappings, murder, beheading, rape and violence - carried out in a compulsive, non-thinking, non caring manner. It is a living horror story mentality for those living in its nightmare. We have seen many Dictators living under Pluto’s negative umbrella using control and torture on the citizens and in their world.
Pluto rules all that is hidden, unseen or buried, including secrets, undercover work (such as detective or spy work), strategic planning, and even the roots of plants or vegetables. It also drives the unearthing or unmasking of whatever has remained concealed. It rules decay, corruption, gangsters and all underground figures.
The Alchemy of Spiritual transformation teaches that real transformation is not all about Light or one-sidedness. It si about the light and the darkness, At the appropriate stage, shown in the mythological stories of both Christ and Buddha - that they had to face and confront the darkness and in one even death in to reach real Awakening and to be reborn anew for the greater good. Pluto is about ego-death and real death.
When faced with breakdowns of Pluto, people often draw on all their reserves to hold together what is disintegrating. But this only makes the the breakdown more difficult and deadly. The old structures are no longer working and the only hope is to destroy them and build new ones. Not any easy task- physically, emotionally or mentally.
Pluto represents a point or issue within us, even if simple,, that can have immense power over our psyche. It is compulsions and complexes within us. We have seen many Spiritual teachers of all religions get into hot water about issues of sex and power ( both ruled by Pluto and it’s sign it manifests in Scorpio). It happens even after they may have reached profound spiritual heights at times, but they still have uncooked seeds left in the psyche that is resurfacing under the Pluto archetypical energies. And usually the people effected have tried to selfishly take this Universal power and use it for self interests to eventual terrible ends. Pluto wants us to face our garbage, and as in Alchemy destroy the dross of the self which holds us back. But like compost, which is all about rot and decay,, the same compost can be the foundation wityh the symboliv minerals we need to eventually grow.
Pluto is not sudden it its effects like Uranus is,, its Power is evolutionary in its transformations. All living things are born, grow, decay and die to be reborn again in a new form. Working with the Higher Power and energy one can do many good things,, trying to grab it and use it for selfish purposes causes breakdowns and destruction. One must learn to use it wisely. Many people touch upon Pluto through having a severe illness ( terminal or long term) or through having and sometimes recovering from cancer.
The two Tarot cards which to me more represent the Plutonian energy is the Death Card and the Judgement or Resurrection Card. Death in the death card is about Transformations,,, death of the old . In the Judgement card we have three naked figures,, Male/Female and a child all being reborn or resurrected after being cleansed and transformed out of their coffin from the call of the Angel or Archangel presence representing our Higher Soul’s, God Consciousness and Awareness.
