Venus the Planet of Love, Beauty, Harmony and Affection
The next two Planetary archetypes and their energy which we will explore are the Yin oriented VENUS ( the planet of Love and Beauty) and then the Yang oriented Mars ( War, Conflict and Strength). They are two sides of one coin in certain ways - although in people’s personality many times people seem to be more connected to one side of the see-saw then another.
Venus (or also called Aphrodite) is the archetype of Love and Affection. It is connected to the Pleasure Principle. It is about personal love, romantic love, wants and wishes we have towards those we care for. It is connected to some degree but one octave lower then Universal Unconditional love archetype of Neptune. Venus is attached to things they love -- Be they people or objects. Venus is the archetype of Possessions. Possessing what they feel is beautiful to itself. This planet concerns itself with Love, Romance and Harmony and our emotional attachments, ( via marriages, lovers, friendships and other unions (like business partnerships). Venus is content to spread happiness and tenderness, all the while teaching us how to love and appreciate others and the things that we possess.
In the Moon energy we had the more universal or even abstract principle of the Divine Feminine Mother archetype .. Here is Venus we have the daughter (Persephone). – That is able to put the abstract into a more workable ideals and usefulness.
Venus deals with the principle of Bonding and Binding together. LOVE and even Oneness streams from Love and is that energetic binding principle in action. But with Venus it is bonding with and binding people in the many types of Relationships we form in life ( be they via Family, Friends, Lovers, Marriage Partner etc. – And yes even enemies) . It is the archetypical force of Personal Love and Affection with have with others. Venus also can cause us to be attachment and bonded with objects, things, even ideas we own or desire. There is a magnetic energy infused in Venus’s. We attract what we strongly focus on.
Venus energy is magnetic and alluring, – it is receptive in its energy in bringing toward itself the things they want and desire. - quite the opposite of Mars modality which can aggressively can go forward and hunts , and then takes what it desires. Venus embodies the principle of Attraction.
Venus is aligned to all things and qualities of Beauty. The arts (music, dance, drama and literature, to name a few) and a sense of the aesthetic fall within the realm of Venus. Venus beseeches us to indulge our senses and revel in the beauty of our world. This planet is inextricably linked to refinement, culture, charm and grace. Color, harmony, taste, aesthetic sense and music are all Venus connected.
Venus also deals with the pleasure we derive from our possessions and what we may consider important for ourselves. - be it jewelry or crystals, paintings, cars, good food and drink, books, knowledge, a beautiful home etc etc... Venus's interests can vary with different people.. This planet asks us to appreciate the exquisite nature of things. It deals with all the senses and the sensual aspects of life. Venus is the spice of life, the color and sweetness that open our hearts and refine our senses to appreciate the beauty in all things.
Venus also has a cutting and sometimes disappointing underside, like a beautiful mirage that offers fleeting pleasure then entices us and can entangle us in attachments. Venus is an irresistible incentive for living fully but like sugar it needs to be part of a balanced meal. If we are willing to register only pleasant feelings rather than the whole range of emotional experiences, then our lives will inevitably lose their color and richness. When overvalued or clinged onto, Venus’ higher possibilities can be buried in a superficial doting on appearances, manners, and shallow relationships.
Venus operating positively enables people to relax and enjoy themselves, feel connected with others, and perceive the love and beauty in the world and in nature. They will place a high value on warm relationships and friendships. Appreciation. When Venus’s energy is inhibited, people may feel unlovable, unattractive or unable to enjoy any aspect of life, while in excess, they can be prone to laziness, passivity, or self-indulgence. Venus can also manifest in distorted or projected forms as conceit, vanity, materialism, or snobbish feelings toward the coarser realities of life.
Other planetary archetypes can influence Venus basic experiences of love, friendship, and pleasure, their styles of relating, and attitudes toward beauty and art. When combined with Uranus, Neptune, or Pluto, Venus’s love and sexuality can be pathways to transcendent experiences.
How do you relate to what Venus represents? has it been free-flowing and open or has it been a negative binding force or one filled with to many disappointments in your life? As they say - beauty is in the eye of the beholder -- What things are beautiful for yourself?
The Tarot Image connected to Venus is the Empress card. She is abundance personified in the beauties of nature and the physical world .. giving birth to tons of things and and in turn our attachments that keep us alive..
