Astrology is a wonderful rich symbolic system of understanding energy archetypes within one's own life and the world.
Are there others who see it and use it that way?
I thought it would be interesting to go through the meanings of the planets and what they symbolize --- any others interested in sharing?

OK, lets start our mini- exploration of Astrological symbolism.
In astrology, two energies besides the archetypical energies of the planets are essential. They are what is called the two luminaries - the Sun and the Moon. The Sun is about our daytime rational consciousness and awareness and likewise the Moon is a symbol of nighttime, intuitive and dream consciousness. The Sun,is Yang and it polar opposite is the Moon, is Yin. In this duality, both are essential principles within our being.
Lets us start off in our exploration into the Sun’s energy and its meanings. The sun is the Center of our Solar System.. And so is the Sun and it’s meanings the central integrating and radiating force within our being and Self. - correlated with our Heart Center. ( the Sun Sign of Leo is Ruled by the Sun). The Sun symbol can also be related to the nucleus in the center of any atom. These universal principles work - As Above, so Below.
Look or meditate on the the bright orange yellow light of the Sun in the picture above. It radiates out Light, Strength and Vitality and perhaps universal Love – giving Life to all it shines upon. It is most connected to the element of Fire and creativity. All of these are keys energy concepts of the Sun’s energy and meaning. The Sun is about Centeredness as represented by it picture glyph as the center point within a perfect circle. In Greek Mythology it is Apollo, the Sun God, related to the Metal Gold and the King as a archetypical principle in Alchemy. It is the Hero Figure, born of divine origin, seeking out its true Individual Self.
On a psychological level the Sun is a symbol of the Self. But there are various types of Selves within us - it could be the our Personality Self or Ego. One who is aligned to there Sun’s energy within their personality feel's alive and have self-Confidence with a healthy Self-Esteem. One with a strong Sun energy or ego energy in their life wants to shine out to others and likewise to uplift others.
But the Sun symbolism can also represent a Deeper part of our Self and it has a corelation to our Higher Self or Soul within – Some called this our True Individuality which is different then out personality ego self. The Sun represents in our astrology chart’s the core need to become a self-actualized individual with the need and power to express themselves creatively in one’s own unique manner. And furthermore the Sun Archetype can also be a symbol of our ultimate connectedness to Spirit and to Divine Unity.
The Sun, as a majestic symbol is connected to the psychological "King" principle or masculine father principle within us ( this being a “archetypical principle” that both genders have within their psyche's - be they a female or male in their personality gender in this life. And likewise both genders also have a mother feminine principle within also). The Sun is the principle of the boss, the one in charge - standing at the center of any "circle" they are involved in.
The Sun is aligned to the Creative instinct - filled with the energy, force and enthusiasm to actively create.
Being Centered in the Here and Now is essentially a Sun principle especially if one is attuned to that Higher Unity within.
Psychologically, how one relates to the principles that the Sun represents in their life can give indications from an astrological viewpoint of the strength or weakness of this archetype in an individual. An example -- lets say one has low self-esteem, full of fear etc. – one may need to activate this Sun principle within themselves. Where others can have too strong a personality ego may need to move The Sun's center of conscious to a higher aspect of Self away from the Personality Ego.
In an astrology chart of a person- the placement of one’s Sun by Sign, House and Aspects can give an indication how an individual relates to the archetype of the Sun and how it plays out in their life.
What has some of the intuitive ideas that have come to mind within you reading or thinking about the Sun’s energy.? Where is your Center? Please share.
thank you and peace aceofcupsPS. We also could have also gotten into the further rich exploration of the Sun as Hero figure in Myth and Religious symbolism, or its use in Tarot or Alchemical symbolism.

Actually I am still struggling with the mathematics of astronomy which all I am capable of understanding. I do how ever find it odd - very odd - that the celestial cycles would fit so conveniently into metaphysical concepts. I guess that is why they say the Word of G*d is written in the stars.

Perhaps George the Metaphysical concepts preceded it from the Deity or Deities using mathematical archetypes and ideas of cycles in creating the physical universe. Just a thought or was that an idea,,, .

Hi Ace, That was so interesting. I did not know that the sun represented yang and the moon yin. When I looked at the picture of the sun, I immediately felt the warmth in my solar plexus. Burning hot and bright. I find this fascinating and look forward to reading more on the subject. So thank you so much for sharing. Love and light Kaz
