“People will do anything, no matter how absurd, to avoid facing their own Souls.”
― Carl G. Jung
What do you think Jung meant by this statement? and - Do you agreed or disagree with it personally?

Go deep enough, and there is a bedrock of truth, however hard.

Hi Ace, For me Jung is again referring to shadow work, and been able to honestly look deep within ourselves, see why we are the way we are, do I face my soul, I would like to think so, have I dealt with all my buried issues, probably not. Look at how many people cope with the world through denial, people spend a life time in bad relationships through denial, cope with fatal illness through denial. To live in denial is easier, to face the truth hard, to face the truth about yourself, very hard. To entertain spirituality, a basic must.
Robert.

Christians have the story of Adam and Eve, who ate from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil and saw that they were naked, and were ashamed. I wonder if, in our understanding of this story, the "knowledge" caused them to face their own souls...
Why were they ashamed? It was because of duality, was it not? I believe Robert is right in his thinking as to our shadow selves, or alter-egos, or whatever we call them (and I agree with Jung's statement), but did Jung's thinking stop there?
Do we Live in subconscious states of shame because we are in this duality and actually Apart from Perfection? Are we afraid of what we Will see, or what we will Not? (and does herd mentality come Before, or After, our shame?)

It depends on how you look at it. You live in a society with it's average definition of decency. To go outside the norm is not considered nice or even advisable at times. So I think it not so much we see the evil that is inside as it is we glimpse the goodness we could be. But why bother? Were we called to be saints?
And if so why us?! Why can't some one else be the martyr? How embarrassing can it be to go around with a halo and having doves land on our shoulders? People destined to be crucified are not good credit risks and deserve to pay extra interest charges. It gets to a point where you can't even offer someone a decent juicy hamburger without possibly offending their dietary preferences.
Absurdity is being social. That is how you make friends. Jokes and all. Look at me. At least I am not acting morbid and scaring everybody off.
Well there is the Inner Sanctum but that is a carefully guarded secret no one but me is allowed to enter.

Thank you all for your insightful inputs on the question;
Robert - I totally agree with what you said about denial. Some people say to the question -It is easy to not seek, it makes us fit in, it was what I was taught as a child why should I search for deeper truths? god gave me the suffering I have. etc etc.
It is a real blessing to have a life with the realization or yearnings for deeper truths to me. It may not be in the blueprint of everybody's life for a particular lifetime, but I humbly honor those who carry that seed.
Gruntal.. the Inner Sanctum is hidden but always waiting for those willing to find the key. peace aceofcups

Facinģ our Soul in our belief, is self realization,, its when one goes to the Soul Plan by Soul Travel and beholds one Soul in full glory and learns Its purpose in heaven. And its true we have a inner sactum,were Soul is and the Spirit of God resides. I don't think facing our Soul, if there's other ways to do so should be scarry, cause that's who we realy are, bybe a little come to think about it
