(yes, I'm going to have a Part II!) (you are SO going to get tired of me, lol)
I read something here earlier today that caused me to wonder how Many times we recognize honey as a spread to go on Bread, but we never even Think about how good it tastes in Tea. …oh, wait, that is Not what I want to talk about….no, it’s more about how we relate our understanding of something in One area but do not apply it to any Other areas where it might be Useful…this is the basis of fractal thinking, and I want to start with That – then connect it to what I read Today in a second post. (I was reading about relationships, and anger, and ‘wrongs done’ – and I Understand; I Hear you. That’s what has Started all this drivel. Lol) (though I didn't make all this up Tonight, goodness, No)
Fractal Thinking….It’s almost easier to explain what I call “book-bending” – it’s just a matter of opening up a book wider than we may usually feel Comfortable doing, if we have a love for books at All. And yes, it involves Risk of damaging the spine or binding of the book, but it can open a way to experience the Fullness of the text; reading those little bits of print that are hidden close to the spine; incorporating more information into the book, small notes that have been added by a previous reader or even by the author Himself.
Book-bending further describes Life, the discovering and/or adding of information as we bend the Rules of Traditional Thinking in order to better See what is inside, without necessarily replacing the original information. For me, this is the springboard for Fractal Thinking.
There is a fake flower on my table here – it looks like the real thing, lol. Let’s pretend for a moment that it Is a real one... Man has long understood how this flower grows from a tiny seed, and that it needs to be nourished by the sun and the rain; now man knows about the process of photosynthesis – the “how” of the plant’s growth – as well as how to Help it grow faster, or in various climates, etc.
Comparatively recently, as we began to learn about those things which happen to the plant ‘beneath the surface’, it is important to note that nothing “changed” about our initial understanding of the flower’s growth… it still comes from a seed, is nourished by the sun and rain, etc…no, we simply Expanded upon our knowledge. Do you see? And still we don't see Everything...no.
If you consider this one small flower in a Different light, noticing how the foliage has spread as it matured; paying attention to the fold of each flower, and how it is Designed for a specific area; it seems like we're just examining what we already Know....and yet as our Minds begin to expand, as they should, we see Further...we see how this flower is Responding to its environment on a Whole new level: its proximity to literally everything Else in it’s environment – not just to wind, sun and rain but to Everything, for Everything is set in a certain order to Interact with one another in an unfolding song that is the Essence of Sacred Geometry….can you see it yet?
For the last 125 years, more or less, man has managed an adequate-to-accurate means of measuring intelligence; the last 20 years have taken us leaping and bounding in identifying diversity in this area…crystallized, fluid measurement ….the idea, whether measuring previously gained knowledge or newly introduced information, has been single: Practical Application of Information.
These tests may have different backdrops, they may last 2 hours or 2 days…. yet the very Idea of testing in its varying forms create a Mindset for those being tested: Practical Application, and therefore, Relevance in the midst of multitudinous data.
Up until recently, it seems the human mind has been sorely lacking in the area of fractal thinking. The idea of making correlation between two or more seemingly unrelated “parts” of whole data has just been Difficult…hence repetitions throughout time: war, enslavement, cycles of poverty and SO many issues seem to reflect this.
Some things are easy to understand when we think about past limitations of human thinking: to example, a child who, at age 9, learns to ride a bike thinks “Yay!” but has also, somewhere in the recesses of abstract understanding, learned that Patience and Effort pay off to a Positive reward. That’s Great, but some 10 years later that now-adult child opts out of a particularly difficult class in college because that would not Possibly relate, in his ‘conscious’ mind, to the lesson of the bicycle. And yet, would not the idea of Patience and Effort paying off not be something relevant?
An example more likely to have had past exception would be that of a man who has a boundary dispute with his neighbor, and in the midst of trying to keep his fence where it Is, negotiates to Keep it! He has learned the fine art of Mediation. This man may more likely Grasp the abstract concept of mediation for what it is: an applicable tool for possible future Use. …Six months down the road, however, when he gets a new co-worker who has “boundary” issues and borrows his stapler, his pen, his secretary….he will just as likely Not think of the lesson learned at home just 6 months before; human ego and instinct for self-preservation will not give way to Higher Thought, and his office altercation will still likely end badly.
(Wow, is this long....again) There’s a method to my madness, I promise Part Two later -
Love and Wisdom,
Mary Anne
