Dear Friends
I am looking for some help or guidance in relation to balancing chakras. I have searched the internet and there are pages and pages and pages of information out there, some with great comparisons and others with contradictions. It is quite difficult to know where to start on this, with so many web sites, links etc. Each offers something but I find some lacking in vital information, like grounding and protection while others lack visual meditations, balancing etc. Yes some do offer brief examples but most lack what I am after. It is so difficult to navigate between all the websites to gather the info I require. I am not looking for a complete comprehensive course or anything, just enough to know the general basics from someone personally in the know, to get me started. What I am particularly looking for is a brief description of each chakra and its purpose, the colour associated, and most importantly how to balance each chakra. If anyone would like to or can offer me some guidance or point me to some good websites, I would be very grateful indeed.
Love and Light

Hi cyberangel,
Forgive me for saying what I am about to say but I have been a spirituality/metaphysical student for a very long time and have much experience with this sort of thing. I don't use any system. I developed my own energy work/healing techniques. I don't like talking about myself but since I am new on this forum it probably is a good idea because we don't know each other. I don't know you but I do, however, know about the subtle bodies which are home to the many chakras. The average human being is physical, ethereal, astral/emotional, mental with latent capabilities to be more. Each of these spiritual planes, and their subplanes, are Those which surround our planet. So a man is connected, via his chakras, to the whole of humanity through the Earth. The points of attachment are little vortexes that we call chakras. The word, translated to English, is "wheel(s)". The purpose of these focal points is simple enough. Energy comes and goes through them. What energy? Well what plane are we concerned with? The solar plexus is an emotional center and connects the whole person to his astral/emotioaal body which is in turn a part of the Earth's astral plane. This connection is the means by which we are capable of astral traveling. The other primary chakras are likewise employed. The higher planes... the buddhic, atmic and monadic are all waiting to connect to the person through the crown (the many petals of the lotus). The average person need not be concerned with these. Yes each of these has a color which denotes the band of frequencies in which it resonates. Knowing more satisfies intellectual curiosity. There's no other reason to be concerned if all we are interested in is being "a balanced human being".
In the mature human being the whole person is well balanced. In my experience any perceived unbalance has been due to the person spending too much time on the astral plane where turmoil is so easily encountered. The typical applicant for assistance will be deeply involved with the fears and pains of life's challenges. These are not repaired by balancing the solar plexus chakra but by helping the person to understand and overcome. In my experience it is the lower mind, the ordinary everyday thinking, which needs adjusting, not a chakra. To force a chakra closed or opened or to move it back into it's proper position without first fixing the person involved will lead to physical pain and further trauma. Shall we balance a chakra forcefully? If we do so without attending to the whole person the problem will remain. No metaphysical therapist can get lasting results in chakra work until the person involved is, him/her self, readjusted so that they are more capable of dealing with the little bumps we all hit in life. Please believe me. This is true.
May I advise you to study the subtle bodies of the human being and how they interact with the spiritual universe? Do this without being too concerned with chakras. This foundational work will pay off later when you adjust your own chakras through proper and sustained meditation such as that which I describe below.
May I advise that the single best way to correct the unbalances which result from just being alive is to develop the daily habit of quiet meditation. At sunrise each day just sit quietly for ten minutes. No "omming" required. No special routine. No obeying a master. No book to buy. Just sit quietly. This will be difficult for quite a while. In making this attempt we discover the little busy mind that we all have. It doesn't like to be quiet. It asserts itself. It can be quite pesky. After a while though it will settle down and you'll then notice changes in your perception of surroundings. You may see geometric shapes. Ignore these as they are on the ethereal plane. We want to go higher, to the mental, to the high mental. This is the realm of high abstract and intuitional mind. this plane is home to our souls. After a longer time, perhaps a year, we will attract the attention of our guide. We all have one. They're not angels and they're not masters. They are human souls just like ours except that they are a bit more advanced.
The reason I advise the above is that in so doing we are training ourselves to be normally above the astral plane in our ordinary lives. Once we achieve this we come to realize that we no longer are concerned with things such as chakras. As we mature spiritually our bodies follow suit. Let it all be natural and unhurried.
Along the same lines as chakras is interest in kundalini. There are many beginners who will advise us to manually force this but spiritually cannot be hurried. There are also those who will make false claims. For instance the rousing of the kundalini via sexual energy can be harmful. This flies in the face of what you may read in other places but it is true. What is really happening is that he/she who does this ends up on no higher than the astral plane of illusion. I mention this because it is closely tied to the subtle bodies of a person. Chakras and kundalini are best left alone. The good method, the one which does no harm, the one which results in confusion free good things is the meditation as described above.
Shall we spend tons of money, travel to the far east, climb high into mountains, stay at a monastery, sit at the feet of a guru... to learn? If the teaching is correct we will come away realizing that we could have stayed home and just sat quietly for ten minutes each morning with our money still in our pockets. Regarding chakra balancing... please don't be concerned. Just quiet the mind and all will be well.
I promise this is good advice.
The above is what I would tell someone who was asking because they wanted to have their own chakras balanced. If the reason you're asking is strictly academic it should be very easy to find many books and other study materials to assist.
Hope my wordy reply was helpful. I tend to get long winded and sometimes preachy.

"Coloring chakras", in other words... filling chakras with a particular color is a gross "energetical" mistake on the spiritual path and should be avoided for people who wish to enter into "high vibrations" and not become a soul that is heavy and dense by quality of consciousness. Such souls can not enter into the higher dimensions, they are simply to heavy, clumsy and coarse in aspect of energy state. Consciousness can be explained through a spectrum, not of colors... but a spectrum of energy states ranging from Coarse to Subtle. Subtle states can be translated to high vibrations, and Coarse states to low vibrations.
The highest vibrations is quality of pure, ecstatic and intense radiating love that is extremely emotionally uplifting to people who is in presence of such a spiritual being. Emotions can indeed be understood as energy states of consciousness, but not just energy states but also as entire worlds existing inside them.
Such people work both with cleansing their consciousness using tender, intense white light or similar and also by adjusting to "killing free diet" in other words, a diet without corpses of animals (meat eaters)
By working with such principles (as i mentioned above) it becomes very easy to master the chakras. This is what Thoth- the atlantean taught, and what Jesus encouraged. It was very much possible to live as a vegetarian during time of Jesus. Lentils, buckwheat, plums was some quite common food sources at that time in jerusalem.
