Hmm...old thread but I still want to share something anyway. What is Enlightenment? This question reminds me of... "Philosophy is like being in a dark room and looking for a black cat. Metaphysics is like being in a dark room and looking for a black cat that isn't there. Theology is like being in a dark room and looking for a black cat that isn't there and shouting 'I found it!'" - (from some quotes)
However, I don't think enlightenment is to find a black cat in the dark room but...to find "D" and "F" of Jane. :-)
Dear Mom and Dad, It has now been three months since I left for college. I am sorry for my thoughtlessness in not having written before. I will bring you up to date but before you read on you had better sit down. Okay? I am getting along pretty well now. The skull fracture and concussion I got when I jumped out of my apartment window when it caught fire after my arrival here is pretty well healed. I only spent two weeks in the hospital and now I can see almost normally and only get these sick headaches once a day. Fortunately the fire and my jump were witnessed by Roger, an attendant at the gas station, and he was the one who called the fire department. He also visited me in the hospital, and since I had nowhere to live he was kind enough to invite me to share his apartment with him. He is a very fine man, and we are planning to get married. We haven't set the date yet, but it will be before my pregnancy begins to show. His divorce is final now, and he shares custody of his 3 children. The reason for the delay in our marriage is that Roger has a minor infection which prevents us from passing our premarital blood tests, and I carelessly caught it from him. This will soon clear up with the penicillin injections I am taking daily. Now that I have brought you up to date I want to tell you that there was no fire, I did not have a concussion or skull fracture, I was not in the hospital, I am not pregnant, I am not engaged, I do not have syphillis, and there is no divorced man in my life. However, I am getting a "D" in Art and an "F" in Biology and I wanted you to see these marks in the proper perspective. Your loving daughter, Jane (from “A Letter from college student” by Reimer, J.)
What is Enlightenment? When I read this question, it reminds me of something. Suddenly, I was not thinking about the question because I've been absorbing in daydreaming. Then, I come back to this question again. My attention is shifted, from outside to the inside, and back to the outside again.
So, then, What is Enlightenment? As for me now, it’s some kind of “back to normal” state. When every burden things are gone Like the cold breeze vanishes in the vast sky.

What is Enlightenment???
A question/doubt/mis-conception/feeling that let the brain workout in various stages of understandings, according to the persons own satisfactory/accepted approach towards anything or everything which keeps on making the individual relaxed, calmed, happy, joyful....or whatever term we use to complete the theory of endless thoughts in a prospective manner to compete with our own consciousness on regular basis.
Enlightenment for one is Finding the God / Meeting with the God / Searching the Peace / Living with the Loved Ones Always / Reaching to a Particular Level either consciously or subconsciously / Becoming a Guru / Leaving the materialistic world and entering the spiritual journey of life / Listening to the Sound of Spiritual Energies / Getting involved in any of the Energies that we call as in the form of Astrology, Palmistry, Reiki, Vaastu, Numerology etc... / endless thought process of the individuals that makes them letting understand the lifes reality in their own version of explaining it; & using the terminology of life with their own personal experiences and expertise of seeing & explaining of how to live life according to their own self.
So, Enlightenment is nothing more than a stage/place/level of the individuals own understanding of looking and realizing the comparison between the reality with the illusionary vision of the consciousness that will get change on timely basis & according to the situations/circumstances which let the individual decide by herself/himself that What is their own point of View towards this life itself.
Every single fraction of Second is a Enlightenment of Soul/Individual, according to the thought process of what this Creature wants/expects from the creation/nature itself.
For a Women, giving birth to a baby is like getting re-born by herself in this life. And that feeling is something that atleast a Mother never forgets in her life.
Same like different incidents in our life, leaves a unique stamp or remark in our own thoughts about that instance or the experiences that we face in that period.....Which makes us looking towards the life in totally a different way of understanding it and seeing it.
The time when you (everyone) are left with Zero thoughts, is the point of What being termed as a so called word "Enlightenment"
It is nothing but meeting/realizing the sub-consciousness or what we call as Aatma/Energy/God, while being in this physical body conscious itself.
So, in other words Enlightenment is as simple as like Feeling of Love without expectation to anything.
The power of giving/spreading love to others without even expecting anything in return from the other side, is all what Enlightenment is all about.
God Bless Everyone!

Enlightenment, also known as "the mergence" speaks of a state of intense love which can be realized by transforming one self to a loving person. Both in words, action and spirit. When two people are in deep love... Their consciousnessess can merge and become as one for a single moment. Thus experiencing a similar state of being to that of enlightenment. But enlightment as such is permanent mergence of love. Such being, feels the earth and entire universe. This feeling is described as Oneness. Being one with the universe and God. Because God is Oneness.
A state of eternal love. That is enlightment. It is also a state of wisdom as the enlightened being now recieves guidance directly from the creator. Such spirits are known to the world as Messiah/Christ. Another word for it is Avatar.
They show others how they can merge with the creator and therby entering a state of intense blissful love.

Enlightenment is the cessation of the habitual, automatic, compulsive and self-referential thought stream. It is the ending of self-talk, psychological fantasies and memory. IOW the end of illusions and things made up in our mind. What remains are factual thoughts but these only occur when there is a necessity for them to occur. They arise as a response to a physical situation. Mental-emotional situations do not produce thoughts anymore, although mental-emotional phenomena continue just as the physical body continues.

Warning – this post will be so boring. Please skip it if you don't like anything boring. :-)
a. an observer b. a bird
1. observer + bird 2. observer + bird = [(observer + bird) + bird] - even the bird’s gone, there could still be: 3. [(observer + bird)] - then 4. {[(observer + bird)] + (observer)} - then 5. {[(observer + bird)] + (observer)} + observer - then 6. {[(observer + bird)] + (observer)} + {[(observer + bird)] + (observer)} etc. etc. - if only, an observer realizes that there’s really NO bird (from 3.), then, there can’t be an observer. - there can’t be observer/observing if there’s no bird (which, in truth, there isn’t.) - And there can’t be observer observing it [(observer + bird)] etc.
This is no-self in Buddhism. And this is enlightenment (in Buddhism.)

Enlightenment is a term to describe the departure of darkness. Darkness has no properties of its own. It is merely the absence of light. When light comes, darkness must disappear.
Darkness impairs vision. When light comes vision is restored. Without vision movement is erratic. When the light comes the way is clear.
Enlightenment, then, is a spiritual term using a physical manifestation or reflection. In reality that is all the physical universe is, "a reflection."

To me the word 'enlighten' means to give light too, or to shed light upon something. Also, when I think of the word 'enlightenment', I also think of the words 'illuminate' or 'illumination'. So to me the meaning of seeking enlightenment; means 'to be able to see and to know'. Love and light Kaz
