Sugilite is an interesting stone, among interesting stones.
It's pretty rare, being found mainly in Africa- not world- wide.
It's predominantly Violet, but can also be found with infused layers of black and purple.
The very best gem- quality Sugilite has a translucent, shiny quality, while lesser grades can be "sandy" or "gritty" in texture. (See picture below.)
From a healing standpoint, Sugilite is an excellent "third eye stone"- meaning that it resonates strongly with the Pineal gland and has a tendency to induce a dream state when applied to the Third Eye.
In my experience, the most effective use of Sugilite is when the client is laying face up on a massage table, bed, etc. and the stone is gently laid to rest on his or her third eye for about 20 minutes. (The effect can be enhanced with the addition of Amethyst at the sides of the client's head, near the ears.)
