Imagine a perfect virtual reality simulator. When you use it, all your senses tell you that you are in another place, that appears just as real as your waking life.
You could use it to simulate having another life. For example, being a soldier training for war. You would experience the good and the bad parts of training, but hopefully the experience would be educational, and you might learn some valuable skills. But the simulation isn't complete, because you still remember your life before you got into the simulator. You know that you aren't in any real danger, and would not have the opportunity to show true courage.
If you could temporarily wipe your memory, so that you were immersed in the virtual life, with all its joys and hardships, to learn more about yourself and to grow as a person, would you?
If you believe the soul is eternal, and that the purpose of life is to learn and grow, then could it be that before were born in this body, we chose to forget our previous lives, and decided to have these particular lives, with all their hardships, in order to foster courage, wisdom, and an acceptance of the temporary? How does this change the way you look at life?

As the consumate teckie I have often thought and speculated about a future scenario where a person could be drugged and placed before an audio-visual machine that forced the individual to experience things he/she never actually did. The experience would not be real but there would be no convincing the person otherwise. Prisoners of war could be made to experience themselves as mass murderes and become morally bankrupt. As in "I have commited the ultimate sin and there is no turning back so I am doomd no matter what I do". It is not that I would never like such a machine to be invented but I am eternally skeptical the state would have the benevalent wisdom to never miss-use it!
That also seagues into one of my perpetual complaints of the spiritual community: you create your own reality. Only if you are phychotic! There is only one reality and you choose rather to participate in it or not. So I tend to think dreams are just that and nothing more. A chance to experiment on the possibilities before actually commiting ourselves to them. In reality you are very much dependent on what the others are doing. And life is oft a learning experience to show you how big the Cosmos is.
That doesn't mean you might not learn something about yourself in the process. It's just that every time I "look within" I see nothing. Like it or not coming up against a brick wall suddenly and very hard is most undenially the ultimate reality and you never really know how that will feel unless you experience it. It is something I have never done and am avoiding to the best of my abillity.
Well I am a tad curious about the others and why they treat me the way they do and how it would be to be reincarnated as them. Something a virtual reality machine probably could not deal with. I would have a very hard time dealing with that myself.

HI Jash..
your virtual reality sounds very much like what people experience when they have a past life regression or even a deeper trance hypnosis session of Life between Live's. Many times people see themselves reliving and also feeling the emotions and thoughts of a past existence. They visit the place which has been called the Akashic Hall of Records on another dimension of consciousness.
Before we take a new incarnation our Soul also visits places of consciousness where they can examine, with their soul teaching guides, possible future life scenarios. It is said to be like watching a movie but with you yourself as one of the actors in the movie.
Just may take on question.

this is a nice positive approach to live i always believe i am here in this world for a good reason. To learn good things and to live life to the fullest and always do good things in life and remember god always. yes as told by god in Bhagwat gita that i am soul and not just the body and my soul is even existing before i was born and will exist after i die so i believe god. i think may be god told be to go to the earth and do some good job here so i accepted his decision and came here for a good reason and i forgot my past. i never think that i am a fallen soul who is here sent on earth to suffer. but i believe i am here for doing good things in my this life and thank and remember god always. nice post u started. yes when i think the way the i am here for a good reason i try doing positive things rather than just spending live as it goes. have a happy and healthy life charu
