A few posts I was reading about the ego made me ask this question. Where am I needed most? There is the idea that life doesn't always take you where you want to go, but where you need to go. What has been your experience with this? Where do you feel in your lives that you are needed the most?

At the risk of flogging a dead horse: I have had thru out my life what I felt were the lowest of jobs, the meanist of duties, in sharp contrast to the promises I received. In my old age it makes a mockery to even assume I would have any self esteme.
I have reason to believe in this respect I am not alone; indeed it is becoming a global phenominum. We preach self worth and exalt the individual with out actually having any reason to do or be. We say people need to be loved but I think humans also want to feel they fullfill some need in life too. It means a lot to think you are important enough to have somebody or something depending on you. The state has taken over a lot of this and all most made us all obsolete.
It was suggested years and years ago I should go to college and major in journalism. I did not even understand why or what they were talking about. Who needs journalists? I do feel a need to just write things "on the sly" and point out what is being glossed over. But even in this it is not obvious rather I am meeting some need other then exulting my own ego that I actually have something to do or say.
Maybe that is why I am getting my foot in the door in emergency disaster communications. If the cell phone towers go bust amateaur radio can still deliver the messages.

Hi Clara, Good question... Reminds me of the Joseph Campbell statement "To find Your Bliss". To me is has to do with the ability of an Individual to make a connection to their Higher Self or Soul Consciousness. In my understanding, the Ego, or personality consciousness -- gives us our personal desires, wants, conditional thinking and likewise our suffering -- it is where a majority of people do see life from.
Individuality, as seen in Jungian terms and in many esoteric schools...is different than ego. It is said the Ego can be a wonderful ally if understood but a terrible master. "Individuality" must be awakened and aligned in one from spiritual practices. Our Soul wants to be awakened and be allowed to be part our waking conscious if we allow it. Once one learns to meditate and quiet their conditioned mind and align more and more to their Higher Self the more one's life is in alignment to what one "should" be doing in my opinion. But the should may not always be the same as our personal desire, but it can be. It is an ongoing, continuous process also. With lots of ups and downs along the way. And in one cycle of our life we can be attuned, and in another cycle less so.
I also think we get help from our Higher Self and guides if we are quiet enough to receive it.
just my take on the question Peace aceofcups

Hi Clara, It is interesting just how often people end up in situations that they would never have asked for or wanted to be in. Which does ask the question, how much of our life is pre determined and mapped out for us. Now I know that not everyone believes in karma, but I do. I believe before we are born, we that is our higher self or spirit has the choice to return to earth or not. If we return, it is in the knowledge that we will be presented with challenges and experiences. These experiences will allow us to learn, attone and evolve emotionally and spiritually.
Whilst non of us wants to suffer, it seems obvious to me, going on my own previous life experiences; that it is only when we suffer, endure and come out the other side, do we discover our depths and strengths. They also show us quite clearly our weaknesses, which I doubt we would be forced to face up to, in any other situation. I do believe we have free will, but I must say, that more then once, I have asked myself, how did 'I end up here' or 'how did it come to this'. When my instincts had been to run in the opposite direction, still I moved forward as if pulled along by invisable hands.
Having said that, I don't believe we are puppets being manipulated by divine forces. I truly believe we are the ones who decide our own life plan. I believe when we arrive at a certain age, it seems to herald a time of upheaval after what has been a comparatively, steady and uneventful life up to that point. Maybe there are trigger points, set in place prior to coming here? Life at times can be very difficult and sometimes frightening. But almost always do we come through, stronger and wiser.
Love and light Kaz

Hello Clara, You already answered you own question. The truth is YES, its the life (nature) who is our teacher, examiner, guide. It's the nature, that we all are made of. And it's the nature that we all get mix/dissolve in one day. Nature is doing nothing but giving us back, what we have done/given to it. We as an humans, are so so lucky that we don't even realize our own potentials. Animals don't have that brain to think/compare what is good or bad for them. So, that's they live directly under the shadow of nature and its principles. But, we as an human being are getting what have done so far. And at the same time, we have something called as brain to use and realize/understand this whole process of "Nature & its rules". Whether we believe it or not, that doesn't even matter in the eyes of Nature. It's is doing its duty in a discipline according to the rules. For eg.. People we meet/interact has a reason in it. But, that's something which is another science of knowing it. So, the core is that never ever neglect/influence anybody in anyways. We all the creation of one thing only. It's like, if a Lady has four babies. Then she doesn't rank them to give her love accordingly to them. They all are part of herself, and she cares for each one of them in a same manner. Same way, it goes to our mother earth/nature. So, whatever we have done in the past. We can't change it now. But at least, the future is in our hands. Make the best use of it, by showering your love to everyone. Someone who has known/experience GOD, can't even say that now the journey of coming and going is over for that person. But, when you have that connection with the MD/GM of the organization. Then, your level of confidence and mindset gets easier to tackle/handle things. Same goes on with the GOD connection. God Bless you always.

Thank you Gruntal, Ace, Kaz and Samy for your responses. I appreciate the different perspectives.
Kaz, you mentioned the idea that before we come here we choose the path we take in life for our own growth. I have heard of this concept from a very young age and it was a hard concept to wrap my mind around though it did make sense when I heard it. I do feel that we are led in certain directions . Thank you for your input Kaz
Samy, I agree that the ego is a very broad term. So many times we think we are getting away from our ego with actions we believe are spiritual when we may be making the Ego bigger. It does feel like something that needs to be experienced in order to be understood. Thank you for your response and your words of encouragement Samy

"Where are you needed most?"
Wherever there's a cry for help, that's where we are needed most.

I have great difficulties with the question. It is not the answer which poses a problem but I think the question is posed in the wrong way. We know that life goes on with or without any of us. Sure it changes, but change or no change, what is the difference? As asked, I think the question is based on looking at the negative aspects of life and some idea how life *should* look like. It is a common error.
I have come to the conclusion that there are people who can't be helped, and others who do not want to be helped. Whatever I think I may be needed most may be totally misguided. I invite you to watch Ernesto Sirolli's presentation on TED "Want to help someone? Shut up and listen!" Yeah, that is apparently all that is required. Oh yes, a few other things too but you have to watch teh video to find out.
In my mind a better question would be "what do I want to do most?" and why am I not doing it?
In answering this question, gruntal's observation about self-esteem are of value. Too often we base our self-esteem on external things, achievements, possessions, titles. We should have self-esteem for the only good reason to have it, that we exist. Existence alone is ample reason to have self-esteem, everything around it is just fluff.
So, can I sit down and listen? Do I think I am capable of that? Doesn't sound to difficult, but look around and observe how few are able to do that.
Well, maybe that is where I am needed most, but is it what I want to do most?

It's the state of mind that brings questions to ask/know. There is no such specification/process to do and make a assumption of what is right or what is wrong? That's totally a individuals own approach of living the life.
So no body is either correct/mistaken even in there thoughts.
Like, Sun doesn't ask for any permission to rise. Breath doesn't wait for its turn to come and go. Thoughts doesn't take a pause and start again. These all and others are parts of life. And, they run the way they will work.
Same like anybody's approach of knowing something is totally depends on that individual. It's neither right/wrong, to contradict/examine them.
Like, I being sitting here say that its morning & the other person sitting somewhere else will say its a night. So, its not that anybody is lying. It's the place where we are, and observing/experience the life and its nature activities.
Whatever we say/think/observe, it's actually the place of mind & our conscious from where we are feeling it in that manner.
A child when born, doesn't start walking on the way. Each and every step takes time and practice for everyone.
If I am saying that I am capable of doing this or that. Than, that's a problem that lies in me only not the other side. (This has a very deep spiritual meaning in it)
The best ever thing that a human being can have in life is : Sharing the knowledge/experience/learnings with others to make easy for them to not fall in something that may present them a false picture of the life.
Live life, Love Life, Care Life, Be with Life, For the Life, Go with the Life.
There is no question of asking the life and its principles.
Whatever is happening, is for the good only!
God bless everyone.
