Dream about an unusual library

Hello,

I dreamed this morning that I was in a large library at night. It was closed. However it seemed the building was a makeshift place for those who didn't have a place to sleep. There were different immigrants and I think many of them were African. I was near the front desk with a woman who I think was a receptionist though the library was supposed to be closed. Two men came in the building walked past the desk andwent somewhere upstairs which I don't think was allowed. Later I was told that they had gone upstairs and made a 'film' with a woman who looked like someone in pornography. An image flashed in my mind of her naked.

In another part of the dream it was daytime and I was walking through the children's section of the library. There were kids playing there. I walked to the back of the library where there were very large books that I had never seen before with the face of someone important to me. They took up half of the space on the bookshelf. The other half were books with the face of a woman that I had recognized but don't know personally.

I remember walking down the street and seeing an organic fruit and vegetables tabs and seeing string beans and a type of okra I usually don't see being sold. I think I walked through a supermarket where I used to work though things were arranged differently.

The last part of the dream, I was talking to an Asian woman who reminded me of a counselor I had in college. We were in the library and I think it as morning or afternoon. She had a canvas bag with a lock on it. She was having trouble opening it but did open it in the end. She said, " it's been a while since I used this bag... so I was having a lot of trouble opening it. But I was finally able to." She looked relieved and was smiling. That was the end of the dream.

In dream symbology, a library represents, inner resources, knowledge, learning new things; study. That it is night time in your dream, implies that you feel cut off from these resources or you are not seeing things clearly. This is reinforced by the fact that the library is closed. You are feeling disconnected from your own inner light and guidance. It can also imply that you are moving into unknown parts of the self.

The libary is being used as a place to sleep. Sleeping in a dream indicates a lack of awareness, or an unwillingness to see or change anything. In other words, even if in waking time, you think about the things in your life you are not happy with. You don't do anything about it. Or in denial about being unwilling to change. Often when people see change but don't move to the action stage of 'doing'. They will either play down the urgency, or blame outer conditions, people as a reason for not motivating the self.

It is believed in dream time, we travel to places of higher learning. Which is what the library represents. The people you see around you in the dream, are on one level all an aspect of you, but on another, they can be fellow dream travellers, who are also in search of instruction, knowledge and guidance. The receptionist, is the guide within. The one who directs you to where you need to go. Two men come in and go upstairs. Upstairs in dream symbology is about rising to a higher level. They may be fellow travellors who are ready to move onward and upward as part of their learning process.

In the next stage of the dream, you return to the library in the daytime. So this is showing progress. You have moved forward. You go to the back of the library to the childrens section. For me this is symbolic of connecting with your inner child. That part of you that is innocant, and eager to learn, just as a child does. Maybe this is your higher self showing you that returning to this mindset, getting back to the beginning, to basics, is the best way for you to move forward. It might even imply, that your attitudes and the way in which you see yourself; i.e. lacking in confidence and direction stems from childhood. So go back to the beginning and start afresh. Read books that are simple and that would appeal to a child. This can also be applied to your spiritual beliefs. A large book, implies this is important. Large books, in a childrens section have large print. Easy to read. Again reinforcing the keep it simple and back to basics theme.

You walk down the street, which is the road of life. You see a market, selling vegetables. Markets are symbolic of shopping around for new ways of seeing and doing things. Everything you need is there, you just have to select what you want. The clue here maybe in the words, 'a new way of seeing and doing things'. This is how you will start to move forward. Go back to basics. Read things and look at things as if you have not seen them before and have no preconcived idea's and thoughts about things. The vegetables, may be showing you there is a need for eating more fresh fruit and veg in waking life.

In the afternoon you are back in the library again. So this library theme is very strong. Maybe its time you visited your local library Clara. If you go, keep an open mind and just go with the area's you are drawn too. Sometimes a book will seemingly jump out off the shelf at us; something that is meaningful may reveal itself to you there. The women you meet there reminds you of a counsellor. So this is showing you how important it is for you to have someone in your life to whom you can be yourself and talk to, about all the things that worry you or that are on your mind. Be this with a waking life counsellor, or someone close to you who you trust and respect. The counsellor within, is your higher self. Who will always have your best interests at heart and try to guide you in the right direction. When she reaches into the bag and smiles, its because symbolically bags contains the tools for nurtering the self. So she knows, you know, that you have all you need within you to help you move forward with your life.
