I've read 12 principles of Karma by Dr Steven Hairfield.
This book teaches around the principles of karma which like attracts like, what you give, is what you get, every thought and emotion has a similar reaction and like kind, the state of balance.
He goes on to state how we can manifest our reality by these principles.
All in all, a good book for people who want to know more about karma in our physical reality which can be correlated to energy.

The simplest and easiest way to know Karma is :
Whatever you do/feel/think/imagine, will be counted as a Karma. And, there will be outcome of it, by giving you back what you have given in any form.
There is no such condition in relation to Karma, that what ever we do physically only will be count under the umbrella of Karma and its effects.
Our thoughts contains as equality as it to physical instances being happened in our lifes.
So, rather digging so hard to research about Karma. You will get only the list of principles being set upon to different things we do and get in return from them.
"Don't focus so deeply into that"
Just try to be good always & develop the ways of having a positive attitude to live life in a balancing manner.
NO one can hide himself/herself from the law of Karma.
So, when we say we born again and again. It's not we, It's the jeeva aatam (spirit) that came here multiple times to finally understand its real nature of knowing that where actually it belongs to.
