There are many Hadeeths mentioning how horrible it is to lie and share a "Fetnah"- a false rumor. One part of a Hadeeth says" مازال الرجل يكذب ويتحرى الكذب حتى يكتب عند الله كذابا"-Still the man telling lies and striving to lie until he is recorded with Allah as a liar.’Moreover "Fetnah" was also stated in a "Hadeeth" "Al Fetnah Ashad min Al Kkatl"-Fetnah(of a person)is worse than killing(him).
