Hello Sara, Welcome to the dream board. In dream symbology, the house represents YOU the dreamer. Your personal energy. The different rooms within the house, all represent different aspects of you. Your personality, your hopes and fears, the way in which you see the world and the way in which you perceive the world sees you.
To dream you go to the back door. This is symbolic of confronting problems in life that you have not wanted to look at. The fact that you are standing outside your back door, would indicate that you have decided to face them. In life, has there been any issues that have been simmering for a while, that you have been avoiding dealing with? Or has a situation come to a head, and you are now being forced to confront?
When we dream about animals, we look at the characteristics of the animal. Its strengths and weaknesses. And last but not least, when we see the animal, how does it affect us, what does it represent to us. Rats do not typically elicit a positive reaction from people.
The fact is, many people are afraid of rats. This is because of their appearance, and association with disease, death, and life's less than pleasant elements. Since rats have such a negative association for most people in waking life, they typically represent the same in dream life.
Rats are not all symbolically bad. For example, the attributes of both the Year of the Rat and the Chinese astrological sign of the rat are extremely positive. Rats are viewed as industrious and clever, and the Year of the Rat is considered a year of good fortune and prosperity. If you have ever had a pet rat, you will also know they are extremely intelligent and affectionate pets.
So with this in mind, how do you view rats? Do you see them in a negative way? Continue this thought process and think about the rat in your dream. Is there something gnawing or eating away at you? Are you feeling guilty or worried about something? The problem may be of a physical, emotional or spiritual nature. Is there something or someone in your life that is unhealthy, or having a negative, unhealthy affect upon you? Typically nagging fear, anxiety or evoking a nameless unpleasant emotion, is one of the more common ways of interpreting the rat, as a dream symbol.
In your dream, there are two rats, and they are two headed! Intuiatively, I wonder, if this is a situation, that is connected to, two people around you. The two heads, lead me to think of two faces. Is there anyone around you in life, that is not being or you suspect is not being honest with you. Duplicitous, being two faced? Do you see where I am going with this?
In the dream you have a knife in your hand. In dream symbology the knife a powerful tool, can be used creatively or destructively. Symbolically, it cuts away unnecessary parts of the self. As in pruning a tree. In this dream, you are contemplating using it to on the Rats. It is suggesting that You, already know what you need to do to resolve this issue in your life or in the atmosphere surrounding you. You need to cut it out, get rid of it. Distance and remove it and its affects, from your life.
I hope this has been helpful to you Sara. Please remember this is only my interpretation of your dream. Ultimately, you know what this dream means to you. So if anything I have said to you resonates then you will know it is meaningful. If it does not, then simply ignore it. I would appreciate your feedback.
Love and light Kaz
