What do Buddhists believe about the ego? Is there a way to undo it while here on earth?

I'm unsure of the buddist philosophy. Though I think the ego gets slated often, the undoing of the ego is something useful for growing a better ego, one with more clarity and good will.
Ego, and how we feel and see the world therein, directs how we connect with the world. Such a thing is still ego, but in tune with the divine, god, and the universe. More doors open when a person has an open soul, such souls have usually matured to a level that they have become safe in their experience of the world.
