Hello Subsiding, I notice that this subject interests you. I feel like it all depends on the context. I've had " omens" happen before both negative experiences as well as the best experiences of my life. So I don't know if I answered your question, but to sum it up I depends. I think the answer is to listen to your intuition and your heart.

Fear feeds fear. Or another way to look at it is: Negativity recruits vulnerable or gullible people and positivity spreads out like ripples amongst the accessible. Imagine, you break a mirror and I tell you that 7 years of misfortune will befall you. You can a) worry about it and imagine all the bad things that ‘might’ happen = what we think we attract = unhappy days b) or you shrug your shoulders and say you don’t believe in bad luck = what we think we attract, no bad luck = good luck! Happy days I received a chain letter a few years back which told me to copy a prayer and send it to 5 friends within 5 days or I would get bad luck or lose 5 friends. I immediately tore up the letter and burnt it as I refused to allow myself to be controlled with superstitions or manipulation. And just in case you were wondering I didn’t have any misfortune or lose any friends (bar the one that sent me the letter and that was their misfortune not mine )

cyberangel, ACIM tells us that projection (as in our thoughts) makes perception. I tend to look at omens as warning signs from our unconscious mind, but I'm not sure. Omens are highly open to interpretation. I don't know if I really believe in them. I thought perhaps somebody would be able to shed some light on the matter. Have you noticed any omens in your life?

Hello Subsiding, Well, an example of an omen in a negative situation would be for example, everyone getting sick on a job that I knew I needed to leave from completely different illnesses around the same time. As far as positive situations, well I guess that's a bit more difficult because I mostly had highly positive signs from God, seeing certain numbers repeatedly or hearing the same phrase everywhere, etc. But before those positive things happened, there were negative things or thigs i hought were negative that happened like losing the majority of my friendships at the time as well as my direction. Actually now that I think about it, those weren't omens at all, I think they we're of clearing away what was not needed in my life at that time. After writing this though, in general I feel that Lorraine is right. It's so easy to be fearful and fear tends to create more fear. In truth I think of we listen in our hearts we know what to do and what to avoid. For example, common sense should have told Napoleon not to invade Russia based on the weather and the terrain. Did he need an omen to tell him that? I feel like if you have a persistant feeling then you should listen to it. But if you're someone who constantly worries about everything, like I sometimes can be, you have to realize that it's your mind doing the worrying and not your heart most of the time.

Hi subsiding, I believe omens or signs are around us all the time. Everything is an omen if we choose to make it so. I believe what makes an omen, is something within ourselves. We sense something from deep within us, on a level in which we are not used to being conscious. We choose something from the 'outside' world to project it on. To make it understandable for us.
For example, if you wanted to make a journey, and were waiting for an omen or a sign to let you know or show you that it was time to make it. In your inner self, you would start to notice a readiness, a sense that the time to make your journey was coming close. Because we are not used to listening to our inner instincts, we will look outward and see for instance a great bird flying in the sky on its journey and we might think that is our sign. Or we might see a giant tree blown down by the winds and we might take that as a sign or omen for change, again another sign that it is time for us to go on our journey.
But really, it is 'we' who are ready on a deep level, and because we cannot accept that we have this inner knowing, we externalise it. If 'we' were not ready to go on our journey, then we could see these things and not recognise them as a sign or omen. In very simple terms, I believe, omens are an outward manifestation of what is going on within. Only do we recognise them as such, when inwardly, we are ready to see them.
Love and light Kaz

Hi Subsiding, It isn't that complicated really. It's meaning is whatever feels right to you. I remember when I was about 15, walking home from my friends house late at night. It was a beautiful starry night. I looked up admiring the view, feeling tiny.. as you do when gazing up at the night sky. Dwarfed by all those twinkling stars, too many to count. To my amazement and pleasure I saw a shower of shooting stars. Inside me I felt an excitement a sense of anticipation, a feeling that life was going to change. Within a few days, I heard that I had been accepted into college. I had been worried that my results would not be good enough for the course I wanted to do. I remember saying to my mum.. aah that is why I saw those shooting stars, it was a sign that my luck was changing for the better. But in reality, I think connecting to that cosmic vision triggered off a heightening of my own intuitive awareness. I sensed within me that change was coming and in a good way. But instead of seeing that, I believed it was the shooting stars that brought me luck. Either way it was a happy experience. My mum always believed birds in the house was a bad omen or to hear a bird knocking. It was odd how often their appeared to be a very real connection between these things happening and hearing of a death or illness in the family. Because human beings are superstitious, if something like this happens, automatically we search our memories to see if we can remember anything significant occurring in a symbolic way leading up to the event. It might be that on a deep level within we already felt a sense of foreboding, but could not put our finger on why. So some people will then externalise the feeling and look outward for something they can project it on. I say to you 'trust your own instincts'. Listen to your own 'inner voice' your 'higher self'. If you do this it will guide you better then any sign or omen. You know better then anyone else what is right for you. Love and light Kaz
