Hi,
Posting under the Spiritual questions topic as it seems the most appropriate to me. I consider myself a Spiritual Christian.
Over the last few years I've suffered with bouts of depression and Anxiety. Just came out of a particularly bad run of it, the worst yet.
My longest running problem though is OCD and it's what I'd like people's views on.
I know it's an Anxiety disorder but one of the worst symptoms is horrible, invasive thoughts that you are totally unable to control. For those who are unfamiliar you basically get an unpleasant thought, know that you don't think that way and your fear of having the thought again brings it back over and over.
What I'd like to know is, do you think God would judge me on these thoughts or would He see that I'm suffering a disorder. Could there be a spiritual explanation for it or is just good old fashioned brain breakage?? I really do worry (and think that this worry makes it worse too) that my thoughts are being received by God and my family in Heaven and they would think badly of me for it.
What do you think??
Thanks

zls, the only judgment that God has for you is that you are completely innocent and whole. It's the same judgment he makes of all of us and his judgments are always right. I came across this Buddhist description of an enlightened person the other day. Pay close attention to 7.
Thoughts are like clouds in the sky. They need not define you unless you give them power. Be at peace knowing how much Jesus loves you and that Heaven is ever ready to receive you. You are after all God's child. If your earthly parents will not harm you because of your thoughts, nor will your Heavenly father. Be at peace.

Dear ZLS, As human beings we are multi faceted. Each part an important part of the whole, no matter what that part is. It is what makes us so unique.
You can no more help having this condition, than a man who has diabetes or epilepsy can. Why some are more prone to anxiety states then others is heard to define. It is believed it can be a genetic tendency. If you were to ask amongst family members, I would be surprised if there were not others who have suffered from anxiety in one form or another. Though it is openly discussed today, it was not in the past. So it might be difficult to discover.
I believe that those who suffer from this condition are extremely intelligent, sensitive and caring human beings. They seem to feel things so much more intensely then others. It would seem that this sensitivity makes them more vulnerable to things like anxiety or OCD.
OCD is as you have said, a tendency to have negative repetitive thoughts. Sometimes accompanied by a type of ritual or coping mechanism help calm the mind down. It can vary in intensity and is often made worse when faced with difficult decisions to make or when finding oneself under more stress then usual.
I believe God is pure unconditional love. He sees what is in our hearts. He knows why you have these thoughts and the distress it causes you. I believe the only feelings he would have about it would be love and compassion for you as you are his child and perfect in his eyes. Your sensitivity, your understanding of the pain of others, because of your own experiences are a special gift.
I love the analogy that human beings are like diamonds, and that it is their flaws and weaknesses that make them so beautiful when the light shines through them. I believe, God sees your light shining brightly and he loves you exactly as you are. You must do the same. Love and light Kaz
