Planet earth, a place of natural beauty where everything must kill in order to survive. A place where people have come to accept the constant carnage as a "beautiful circle of life." Never has our planet known a day of peace. Every day millions die and suffer. If we are to believe that we existed before we were born here then the question has to be asked why are we here? If we truly are Spirit, and I make no assumptions that we are, then why would we choose to come here? What lessons might we learn, what benefits might we gain from coming to a place like this?
I would argue that no "Spiritually awake" person would ever choose to come here. If a person has a choice between Heaven with all of it's alleged perfections, or earth, then it makes no sense that one would choose earth. The most that can be said is that occasionally one might wake up here, but not that one with a sane mind would ever choose earth over Heaven. As Buddha once said "All life on earth is suffering. The way out of suffering is by returning to Spirit." (paraphrased)
It is possible that our existence here is completely random and arbitrary. It is possible that the atheist, evolutionists have it right, and the whole notion of God and an afterlife is nothing but wishful thinking. But this is a spiritual forum, and I for one believe that we are Spirit, so the question of why we are here requires a better answer. The lack of purpose does not constitute a purpose.
If we have chosen to come here then it is for a reason. The reason why we are here is because in some way, shape, or form we are unprepared to experience Heaven. It could be that we have forgotten what we are. It could be that we are asleep in Heaven and don't know it. It could be that we were cast out of Heaven. It could be that we have yet to find Heaven. There could be any number of reasons why we do not experience Heaven right here and now, but whatever the reason this earthly experience, for the time being anyway, remains our perceived reality. Earth is the only thing we know for sure.
So, what can we say that we know for sure about earth. We know that there is plenty of evil and corruption in this place. Everywhere we look there is another victim of somebody's evil intentions. We know that nature itself inflicts much evil on us. Yes, it sustains us ... but then it kills us. In fact, we even entertain ourselves with evil. We go to work and do something that we hate all day long to be able to spend our hard earned money watching movies that glorify just how bad we can be to each other. In this way we can indulge in our evil addiction without going to prison for it. From the evidence one could say that we are here because we are unable to experience Heaven due to our desire for evil. Earth accommodates this desire perfectly. Here we are free to be as evil as we like to one another. In fact, there is damn good money to be made from it. The oil industry comes to mind.
It's clear that there is certainly many forms of evil in this world, so what about love? We know that the word "love" is misused and minimized constantly i.e. "I love to hurt people." etc. In fact, is there even such a thing as love in this place? Hopefully we can find it in our parents, but that is not a guarantee. When a couple falls in love is it love or lust? Most of the time such "love" leads to failed relationships so it's value is limited. Perhaps it's useful for procreation. I have a cat that I love, but I don't see that sort of love as leading to much spiritual enlightenment.
I would argue that the greatest examples of love in this world come from the spiritual masters whose love encompasses all people. Mother Teresa was one such example. She gave up this world to love and help everybody regardless of who they were, what they had done, or what they believed. She loved people period. When asked in an interview why she ministered to people of all religions and even criminals she replied "They are all Jesus in disguise." Not very Catholic is it?
So what can we gather from all this?
1. We are here because we are incapable of experiencing Heaven.
2. There is much evil in this world and much desire for it.
3. There is far less love.
4. The so called "Spiritual Masters" all share one thing in common, a love that is so strong it excludes nobody on the face of this earth.
So, what is the purpose of planet earth? To teach us how to overcome our desire for evil and cultivate a love strong enough to experience Heaven. If one can love his/her enemies, if one can love like Mother Teresa, if one can love so unconditionally and all inclusively as to see nothing but light and love in everybody regardless of circumstances, then this is what is required for us to enter Heaven. If we look upon earth in this way then we can be grateful for all the horror, because without it we would never develop our love to the degree necessary to enter Heaven. Earth is the perfect classroom to learn that evil is not the way and that love is. As addicted as we are our capacity for evil is limited while our capacity for love is limitless.
"Teach only love for that is what you are."
ACIM
"Only those who give over all desire to reject can know that their own rejection is impossible."
ACIM
The healing of God's Son is all the world is for. That is the only purpose the Holy Spirit sees in it and thus the only one it has.
ACIM
How lovely is the world whose purpose is forgiveness of God's Son! How free from fear, how filled with blessing and with happiness!

I would hate to knock Mother Teresa and anyone else that endeavored to heal but I hold it to be self evident that in the absense of changing the very thing that caused pain, suffering and want, it will just go on and on. And at some level we have to admit we did bring at least some of it on ourselves. So "getting involved" to experiment with and change the system seems inevitable even as knowledge saves but also indicts us if we willfully fail to use what we know to be true.
Likewise it seems in retrospect, always in retrospect, that things worthwhile didn't need to be so hard. Or if they were it was worth it just for the experience. Hunting and shooting an elephant was scary enough; far more menacing was acting as veterinarian when the thing did not trust you one bit! If you agree that was some progress then what are the limets to look foward to in the future?
Even more to the point is where any progress comes from? If everything is doomed and none to lead and guide us we should have destroyed all before we even had the ability to do so. That it has not happened is utterly inconsistant to our baser instincts of survival if not domination.
It seems I spent half my life fleeing the others because they were so awfull. And the other half wishing I could go back and enjoy the things I passed up because I didn't know any better back then. If time can flow in both directions it is tempting to have another go at it. Since there are suposedly no guarantees it doesn't seem possible to expect anything to ever turn out right. The fact that it wasn't a total disaster makes me wonder. And wonder.
Give me a few hundred years to think about .......

Heaven is not a place, it is a state of consciousness. Good and evil are a product of our consciousness, in fact they are just an illusion. Beyond that, they are at best just an excuse for tiny men and women with great big ego's to not take responsibility for their actions. We are I duality consciousness and it has it's rules. Scarcity, separatism, and opposites, must be in this world so that we can see our reflection. As inside so also outside. Our split brain is also a product of our duality consciousness. If we have a Christ we must also have an anti-Christ. If we have rich we must have poor. If we have peace we must also have war. We must always see our true reflection. The higher-self is the judge and jury, the sub-conscious is the inforcer of the judgments. The tree with the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil is like a main operating format on a computer, it is duality consciousness. We are on Earth a school learning about what will not work. Haveing knowledge that something will not work is OK, but knowing from experience is that much better. We are also helping to evolve the human body to hold more of our sprit.

So "getting involved" to experiment with and change the system seems inevitable even as knowledge saves but also indicts us if we willfully fail to use what we know to be true. What causes the problem is ego. Almost everybody has one. What better way to solve the problem then to consistently demonstrate through your own example that one can choose against it? Likewise it seems in retrospect, always in retrospect, that things worthwhile didn't need to be so hard. Or if they were it was worth it just for the experience. It's a strange problem. On the one hand ego causes us to suffer and it only exists because of our devotion to it. On the other hand it takes us so many lifetimes to choose against it. Makes one wonder how clever we really are. Even more to the point is where any progress comes from? If everything is doomed and none to lead and guide us we should have destroyed all before we even had the ability to do so. That it has not happened is utterly inconsistent to our baser instincts of survival if not domination. The ego is tempered by Spirit. Without Spirit we would have destroyed ourselves long ago. It seems I spent half my life fleeing the others because they were so awful. And the other half wishing I could go back and enjoy the things I passed up because I didn't know any better back then. Subsidinginsanity Duality is a product of our earth mind and for most people the earth mind is under the control of the ego. Ego is not good or bad, we have to have one to run all of the autonomic functions of the body. The mystics ask who serves who. Do we serve our ego or does it serve us. Heaven is not a place it is a state of consciousness, it is the other choice that we could have made in the Garden of Edan. The tree of life was non-duality consciousness. When we die there is an inbetween world that some people get stuck in, the ego and duality consciousness stay with us in the inbetween world after death. If we choose to go into the light our ego and duality consciousness stay behind and die. Beyond the inbetween world there are many different levels or what people think of as heavens. The Garden of Edan was not a place on this Earth, it was the whole Earth. Everything on this world reflects back at us our own true inner nature. Untill we take the time to do our personal inner work, the only thing that we can create is our own inner sickness in the outside world. There is not duality in Heaven, because Heaven is a state of consciousness, a state of non-duality consciousness. We can never have peace on this earth as long as we are in duality consciousness, the best that we can ever do is keep the balance between war and peace. We can never feed the whole world while we are in duality, we can only keep the balance between the haves and the have nots. We can never heal all disease while in duality, because we are creating it all, some must be healthy while others suffer.

Great post Ishtahota. Subsidinginsanity Duality is a product of our earth mind and for most people the earth mind is under the control of the ego. Ego is not good or bad, we have to have one to run all of the autonomic functions of the body. The mystics ask who serves who. Do we serve our ego or does it serve us. I see the ego as the thought of separation and duality. Its what has convinced us to project this place of opposites. I would really like to believe that losing the ego is as simple as going into the light. I'm not saying your wrong. I hope you are right as a matter of fact. I just think there is more to it than that. For some reason we chose to give the ego power. I feel that we need to work through whatever reasons we had for choosing the ego over God. The Garden of Edan was not a place on this Earth, it was the whole Earth. Everything on this world reflects back at us our own true inner nature. Until we take the time to do our personal inner work, the only thing that we can create is our own inner sickness in the outside world. I've always thought of the Garden of Eden story as being symbolic of a greater spiritual truth. According to ACIM projection makes perception. That's just a way of saying that our thoughts make what we perceive. Personally, I believe that the key to everything is mastery of the mind. There is not duality in Heaven, because Heaven is a state of consciousness, a state of non-duality consciousness. I also believe that Heaven is a condition and free of opposites. "... The opposite of love is fear, but what is all-encompassing can have no opposite. This Course can therefore be summed up very simply in this way: Nothing real can be threatened. Nothing unreal exists. Herein lies the peace of God." ACIM We can never have peace on this earth as long as we are in duality consciousness, the best that we can ever do is keep the balance between war and peace. We can never feed the whole world while we are in duality, we can only keep the balance between the haves and the have nots. We can never heal all disease while in duality, because we are creating it all, some must be healthy while others suffer. Unfortunately I tend to agree. Reminds me of my The Purpose of Mysteries thread. It seems that world peace and lack of suffering are not in the ego's interest. Ego keeps us bombarded with problems to solve as a diversionary tactic. If everything was perfect there would be no duality.

Love what you wrote subsidinginsanity - very deep thoughts.
First I would like to say no one can ever make another believe in what ones says, but can only offer food for thought.
Therefore my reply to this post is; I cannot stress strong enough or tell it more clearly that this planet, (Earth) – is the ONLY planet throughout the entire cosmos where GOD can be won and realised within oneself.
No other planet in existence gives this incredible opportunity but earth. The sole purpose of earth is to grant man/woman the gift of winning the ultimate goal, Self-Realisation.
So you see, no other planet in the universe is more special than this one.
Earth and its inhabitants are always closely monitored by those whom we call aliens as well as those on the inside. They know just how special earth is and watch closely our progress and even intervene at times when the need is called for. Unbeknown to us of course.
Also for those who did not read the post I gave some weeks back (The Mind of Man), you will find when reading it just how special the Earth is, and how very fortunate we are to have won the chance in coming here.
Another thing for me to say as I bring this to a close, is, all that you have learned, all that you’ve been taught and all that you thought you knew; throw it all away and start over again.

Hi neon, glad to hear you like this thread. Just a few questions,
How do you know that earth is the only planet in the universe where “GOD can be won and realized within oneself.”? If there are aliens who are monitoring us and intervening on our behalf where do they come from? Are they more spiritually advanced than us? If so, then how can earth be the only place where enlightenment is possible? Do they not have their own home world somewhere in the universe?

There are some things I will not say no matter what, and there are some things if said would make me seem like a real crackpot.
All the answers to every question is within ourselves. All we need to do is look within. Though it does depend much on the efforts we put in as well as our sincerity.
Take a very small child for instance, how it cries when it wants something. The mother of course will clearly hear the cries and will ignore it only until the cries become more frantic, more sincere. As the child continues with the cries in getting louder, the mother will then run to her child and lift it up into her loving arms. Such is the Divine Mother when we put effort into spiritual practices with sincerity.
Yes there surely is great spirituality in other life forms throughout the universe, and many planets are like stepping stones leading to this final destination (earth) where man in time will eventually realise his true-self. When that day comes there will be no more births for that one.
I am modifying by adding something more; You say how do I know that earth is the only planet where man can realise God. I will step out on a limb by saying, its because I have been told - and more.
And this came from a very high source. I am not going to say any more concerning this source otherwise you may think differently.

I guess I just find it hard to believe that earth is the only place in the universe where enlightenment can be achieved. Is it the geology of the planet? Is it the people? How can God be limited by location? Can God not reveal himself to somebody who is not on earth?
Edit: I guess you've said that you will speak no more about it. That's fine, but I'm not sure how it makes much sense. Then again when it comes to Spirituality I'm not sure about much ... Here's an idea, you may be less likely to be labeled a crackpot if you explain.

How can God be limited by location? Can God not reveal himself to somebody who is not on earth I also agree with subsidinginsanity. I feel people would be seen as more credible if they reveal their sources for their information, otherwise it could be classed as an off the cuff remark or a guess at best. I receive messages from the Angels and communicate with them all the time. I have openly and willingly shared their knowledge and messages with others. I do not claim any information I have received from them as my own. It really doesn’t matter to me whether people see me as a crackpot or not as I know in my heart and my soul that the Angels are real. I also do not feel the need to validate it to anyone and nor have I ever been asked to here. My belief in the Angels has always been shown respect here in the forum. I also don’t force what the angels say onto others or their beliefs, I just leave it to each person to make their own mind up, I only ask for respect. Neon, I understand if you don’t feel comfortable with sharing where you get your information from, but you also must understand that people will probably question your sources, whether you reveal it or not. I do enjoy your posts and find you a very open and genuine person, and I look forward to reading more of your posts. Remember, people will make assumptions regardless, for it is in their natures. Love and light friend

Subsidinginsanity – you say - I guess I just find it hard to believe that earth is the only place in the universe where enlightenment can be achieved. I did not say enlightenment cannot be achieved, I said Realisation. Enlightenment can be attained in many places other than earth, but its God-Realisation that I’m talking about, there is a difference. This can only be won through the grace of God, and it can only come about when in human.
Know that there is a Divine plan, a purpose behind it all!!! Man’s ego is running rampant in today’s world which is the cause of all the suffering including his very own. The purpose for coming into the world is to shed the ego. Ego is the obstacle - it blocks man’s path to real happiness and peace of mind while it also keeps him from learning of his true identity. It’s much like putting on a mask of a monkey and taking on the role of it where they become lost in it. But all the time underneath the mask is the real YOU. One day in some lifetime or maybe in this life depending on one’s efforts, the wearer of the mask will finally come to discover that they need NOT wear it anymore. They then become (Enlightened) to this truth. But that’s all, they then MUST start working towards God - Realisation. When we realise this through experience we then start to make inner changes, whereas the ego is then gradually kept under control. This cannot be done all at once, it’s a slow process which takes many lifetimes to overcome. And it doesn’t come about on its own accord either, it’s always been God who has been leading us forward through thick and thin. What is man’s destiny, it is to know HIMSELF that which is god.
When we begin to make headway we then receive visitations from many who have travelled the royal path themselves. Who better to help those treading this path than them who have reached the goal in life. Throughout the entire universe there is no other planet like Earth, or like man (human). There may be similarities to man throughout the universe, but they are NOT human. Only when one wins the right to be (human) can Realisation then be achieved. The only way for one to learn this truth is to start working towards it.
cyberangel , I hesitate in saying this, my source is the god within myself. And at times I receive His visions in dreams and in my waking state. I did not want to declare this, as you are probably now thinking that I’m a nut. And sadly I must also agree with you, only because there are so many nuts in the world today. Who do you believe? I say judge them by the fruits of their actions and words, and always use common sense.
I hear about these ones who say they are Jesus come again and people flock to them believing it. Even when these sick ones sleep with daughters and wives, nothing changes they are still adored. Very sad this is. You mention angels, I will tell of my meeting with St Michael (archangel).

Dear Neon, As I said previously, people will make assumptions regardless and you my friend have also done this, do not assume for me friend, for I do not think you a nut at all. I often feel and connect with the energy behind your words as I know this comes from a genuinely honest place, and that energy my friend speaks more to me than any words you may use You probably already know this but I shall remind you of it anyhow, we are vibrational creatures, we live on a vibrational planet, which is part of the vibrational chorus of the cosmos. God is the ultimate broadcaster He can send his vibrations to wherever, whatever and to ‘whoever’ is able and willing to receive. We are all singing from the same hymn sheet it’s just some are more in tune than others I very much look forward to hearing of your experience with Archangel Michael, he is the only angel I personally address as St. Michael when connecting with him, so I really liked that you mentioned this ;D

Hi neon. I hope you are having a fun labor day weekend. You can see what I'm doing. Regarding your last post,
this is a Spiritual forum and we are expressing Spiritual ideas. There is no need to let other people's perceptions bother you. Some have thought me a nut job for studying ACIM. Christians don't like it much because ACIM was dictated by Jesus and they don't want to hear it. Others have told me that my words have helped them. There are all kinds of wild ideas out there that I think are nutty, hence, my username, but as nutty as my ego judges them to be I know that I am not one to judge because Spirit is unfortunately still a mystery to me.
The term "enlightenment" has many definitions. People ask to be enlightened to everything from God realization to a better calling plan. To me it means waking up to True Reality. This means undoing the ego which is the thought of separation and all the horror and conflict that goes with it, and realizing the perfect oneness and peace of Heaven and the truth about what we really are. In other words God realization. In this way I agree that the purpose of the world is to lose the ego.
Is the human body capable of a higher level of consciousness than other bodies? Well, if we're talking about a mouse probably. As far as aliens living on other planets I really couldn't say. If as a species they are more Spiritually advanced than us I tend to think they are capable of achieving everything that we may achieve. Again, that's just my hypothesis.
As for the specialness of the human body I don't really subscribe to that idea. I see bodies as our defense against the truth. They appear separate, unique, and ever so vulnerable and insignificant in the grand scheme of things, so they deny God in every way. The human body is no different. Of course that also depends on your definition of God. I've heard all sorts of ways that Spiritual folks try to reconcile the physical universe with God. Some even make God appear to be far beneath even us.
I remember having a conversation one time with a self proclaimed enlightened person. He described God as an entity whose body is the entire universe. Apparently this "god" is not very enlightened, and so it keeps doing all the terrible things that we perceive to itself over and over again in a concerted effort to gain experiences and thereby evolve into a better "god". His belief system had the nifty advantage of not allowing us to blame "god" because "god" has every right to do whatever he wants to himself ;D He didn't want to hear me call his "god" a sadomasochist.
Then you have the biblical "god" with all of it's alleged insanities. All of these descriptions can be summed up in the very first verse of the Bible.
Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
This is really all one needs to understand everything that comes after it. ACIM is one of the very few belief systems in this world that teaches that God has nothing at all to do with the universe, and that this is all our idea, a manifestation of the ego idea through the power of the mind. My one hope is that I never incarnate again, and if I do I only want to go to a much better planet than earth. If earth is the enlightened place then there is no God as far as I'm concerned.
Anyway, back to the part that we both agree on. Since you and I are two of the apparently few who believe that the goal is to shed the ego what methods do you recommend? I'm interested in something that will work in this lifetime, and preferably not be too painful. Any ideas?

subsidinginsanity .....I had to smile while reading your words when telling what some say about God. The problem with the majority is they DO NOT know what God is or what God does for them – for us all.
People are very quick to throw judgment and guilt onto others while at the same time blame God for all their woes in life, but NEVER do they look at the things they have done and caused themselves. If things dont go the way they would like things to go, they become atheists. But if they are happy and contented with all the luxuries of their desires, then they are God's best friend and tell all and sundry how much they love God. But as soon as they lose everything, God is their worst enemy. How quickly things then change.
God causes no suffering to man, man causes his own suffering. On a last note and for the record, I have not yet reached realisation. Like you I am some ways along the path, and for reasons in not saying to much on certain things is it may only cause confusion. And this I do not want.
cyberangel ... A few years back on a forum in the US I told in a reply to a post something significant about spiritualism and God. The author to that post did not like my comment, even though there was no harshness involved or intended. Because of my comment I was branded numerous names by the author and by the friends of the author from numerous countries. Then others came to my defence which then erupted into a savage word fight.
This is why I say at times, in some things said you may think I'm a nutcase; this is just to soften things before they're said. Hope this makes sense.
I left that forum after giving my appologies for what was caused, even though I never said any wrong. This is where the ego of others will not accept something that clashes with theirs. So they retaliate fiercely. This I NEVER want to cause again, as it must have caused many minds to be a little unsettling.
Anyway enough said on this, I will start that other story on St Michael.

In the Shariyat Ki Sugmad, meaning the way of the Eternal said in one part, that after It created Souls they played and didnt give back to each other and all the Souls were the same, not having indiveduality. Souls were not muture. So God dreamed how to matue Soul, so it created the lower worlds, that of duality so Soul could learn and mature. Every body even alians have Soul, and even animals are Soul but are on a lower incanation eventualy to be human. So in a nut shell earth and the lower worlds is a class room for Soul to develop. You mentioned Self realization, once one visites the Soul Plain the first heaven, he sees what his Soul realy looks like, this is Self realization, you'll then know who you realy are, and have no ego or vanity or anger or attachment to material things, you made it and matured and ready to go back home

I believe, we as pieces of God created earth to experience something that we are not, for when we are not here, we are not physical but spirit. Earth was created so we can experience what life is all about, the good and the bad, for there is no good and bad its just what society has deemed good and bad. Spirit has come to experience physical existence with emotions and feelings all thrown in, to complete its cycle of enlightenment and find out who or what it really is. How can you know what God is until you are not God?

How can you know what God is until you are not God? Hi bazraz, that's an interesting take and I understand the point you're making. But we already 'know what god is' when we're in spirit. Every soul in the spirit state experiences the infinite knowledge, wisdom and understanding of the All. Also, you say we're here to know God. I'm of the opinion that we incarnate for essentially one purpose: to perpetuate the spiritual activity of Love. Love is the foundation of all Creation (my understanding). Our purpose here on the physical plane is to live, share and experience that fullness of spirit understanding regarding the nature of Love. When we return to spirit we will 'know God' once again, and so we don't need to be searching for that while we're here. That's my opinion anyway.
