As we rapidly approach Dec 21 2012 and the earth moves across the equator of our Milky Way galaxy people from all walks of life are predicting everything from a polar shift, to a asteroid strike, to first contact with aliens, to the dawning of global enlightenment. Such predictions are based on the Mayan calender among others. Personally, I think there will be no significant events on that day. Our biggest ptoblem will probably be global warming. But this seems like a good topic for a astrology thread, so, fire away people. Let the predictions commence.

Hi subsiding,

It wont be the first time in history that these alignments have happened, and we are still all here to tell the tale.

The biggest problem that may occur from what I have read is that the solar flares that are predicted to happen at that time may disrupt our communications and electrical equipment. It makes me think of all the dire predictions we had when we hit the year 2000. People were predicting all the computers shutting down and planes falling out of the sky. That day came and went uneventfully as I am sure the 21.12.12 will also.

The Mayan calender prophecy has been completely distorted by the media, who as usual don't seem to have any sense of moral responsibility when it comes to printing and distorting facts that may panic the uninformed general public. The Mayans worked in earth phases lasting about 5,000 years. I believe this one will be the fifth. Instead of it being a time of fear, they greeted the end and beginning of a new phase with celebration. It is believed that this new phase we are entering will be a period of a rising in spiritual consciousness. Indeed its affects have been felt I believe by many for the last year or two.

I would agree with this. Having been a part of this group for 6 years, I have seen a steady rise in people coming here, of all ages, backgrounds and beliefs wanting to share their thoughts and experiences with regard to their spiritual growth. It has been a wonderful thing. I am sure before the year is out we will see many coming in wanting to talk about their fear and apprehension about the doom and gloom prophecies. Hopefully we will be able to allay their fears and help to put things into perspective.

I can see their being big changes ahead of us, but that is what life is about isn't it. Nothing stays the same that is a certainty. We are all growing and evolving, and many will feel those spiritual growing pains. But I do not feel it is something to fear, but to embrace.
