I had a dream last night that a man tried to kill me - he was a serial killer and the way he tried to kill me was by putting me in this containment box that would fill with water and then once full the walls would come together and crush me. I was able to escape and later in the dream, I ran into him and we both looked at eachother and knew eachother. Then I was at a shopping mall with my mom and I saw this man again and was afraid he was going to lure someone into his van so I called the police to alert them that he was there. Although it doesn't sound overly frightening as I retell it, when I awoke from this dream I prayed that I wouldn't go back into it as I was so tired and that seemed to do the trick. Thanks! Sherri

Hi Sherri, In dream symbolism, the characters we see on one level all represent an aspect of the self. Each person will embody qualities you may admire and wish to emulate. Or display flaws of character, areas of the self that need working on. On another level they may represent qualities or personality traits in the people who you know or in the atmosphere around you at this time.
When someone is trying to kill us in a dream, it denotes that something or someone is affecting our thoughts in a negative way and the affect of this is draining our energy. Are your thoughts particularly negative at this time or is something worrying you. On another level, is there a person with whom you are interacting with at this time who may be having a detrimental affect on you emotionally and physically?
In the dream you say this person is trying to kill you by putting you in a box. Boxes are confining. Boxes restrict your movement. So this could be connected to a situation that you have either brought upon yourself because of the way you have been thinking, or someone else is restricting you in some way. Only you know if this is meaningful to you Sherri.
Water is connected to the emotions and you say the walls of your box, are crushing you. Literally your emotions are overwhelming you and putting you under a lot of pressure. The overall atmosphere of this dream, is of a male energy or a situation connected to a male, oppressing, constricting, confining and killing off your free will. I know this sounds strong Sherri, but this is what is coming through for me with this dream.
You go shopping with your Mum. In dream symbology, the mother figure often shows herself when the dreamer is needing the reassurance of a nurturing female energy. This maybe telling you to connect to your own higher self, the part of you that is wise, the part of you that is connected to self love. It is asking you to use this energy these feelings, to help you to get out of this situation. On the other hand it is also showing that even if it is an unconscious thing, you have a real need for some familial security. Is there an older women in your life to whom you feel you could confide in or ask for help? My feeling is, that there is, but you have to reach out Sherri.
The shops in the dream are connected to choices, options. They also represent idea's and aspirations, abilities that you have at your disposal. The mother is taking you shopping. I believe this is your older, nurturing, wise self reminding you that you do have options and choices. You do not have to tolerate the situation you find yourself in. So ask yourself if you are happy with your life at the moment. If the answer is No. The dream is showing you there are alternatives.
The police in dreams represent help and guidance. When you felt threatened by this man again you called the police. For this indicates that within you, you do feel the connection to your higher self or a higher divine energy. You know that you need protection and asked for it. Relate this to your waking life Sherri, and know that this is saying that if you do feel threatened or afraid. Do not hesitate or be afraid to ask for help. It is there for you, all you have to do is ask.
I hope this has helped you Sherri, a scary dream I know. Nightmares are the most powerful dream messages there are. They want you to remember, and fear is a potent way of impressing something upon you that you will not forget when you wake up.
Please remember that this is only my interpretation Sherri. Please only take from it that which is meaningful to you and leave the rest. I would appreciate your feedback.
Love and light Kaz

Hi Kaz, Thank you so much for your interpretation. I am going through a tough time right now and do feel overwhelmed with my responsibilities. I am trying to get a business off the ground as well as come to terms with my own body acceptance. I left a good paying job and my time is running out for my severance and I'm not yet at the same level financially which causes me a lot of worry and anxiety. I have also recently decided that I will not diet ever again and learn to take care of my body just the way it is which maybe does not sound like much, but for a chronic dieter it is a big deal. I feel that I have choices but I do admittedly feel overwhelmed and have never been very good at dealing with my emotions so what you've said makes so much sense. Thank you for offering this to members of the forum, what a gift you provide. Much Love, Sherri
