What and how do you start on the journey to "who knows where but I think it's out there" ? Well it might not be the same for everyone or mayby it is and some of us just don't get it straight so easily.
You can make a pretty good living and make many friends by winning arguments. Tooting your own horn is considered a sign of self confidence in many groups. Dominance is power and who wants to be weak?
You can't change the laws of math chemistry or physics one iota by being assertive. You could fool every last human being from now to eternity but two plus two would still equal 4. Contrary to what some think religion - spirituailty is NOT aninimical to science. Quite the contrary. Both display exactly the same perenial characteristic. You can learn and discover but you can't change what is beyond your ability to manipulate.
I am willing to consider other answeres but as far as I am concerned the first thing you need to do as a "better" person on the journey is to stop fooling everyone - including yourself - and realise there are absolutes out there. Arguing will get you nowhere. The most humble person has just as good a chance to be enlightened as the rest because wrestling with an angel just isn't defined in this case.
Likewise if you ever feel depressed realise this: after thousands of years mankind has acheived unbelievable ways to control the world around him. But understanding much less controlling ourselves is ever elusive because our ego tells us this is the answere we have decided on. The Cosmos doesnt seem to care what we decide.
I think in this case it works exactly the opposite. Being receptive rules although you arn't likely to win many arguments that way.
