I understand that everyone has different beliefs about death. Some believe in heaven, some believe in reincarnation and some believe you just cease to exist. What do you believe happens to people when they die? Do you believe that what happens to you after death can be determined by you or that it happens irrespective of what you choose personally?

Dear Clara, What a brilliant question and I love it!
I am also thinking about death a lot just lately. Don’t get me wrong it’s not something I am rushing to invite just I am looking forward to embracing it when the time is right. My personal belief is: it is not the end it is just the beginning.
I can’t tell you what we’ll experience exactly or paint a picture of it, but I can only explain how I feel inside when I think about it, and it is a feeling of freedom and euphoria. From an early age I have never feared death and I have just always known deep within that it is not the end.
Sure it is sad when someone close to us dies or when a pet dies, but I learnt long ago it is only the body that ceases not the soul (or some call it spirit). I can often feel loved ones after they have passed over. They have visited me in my dreams including pets just to reassure me. I know at any time I can connect with my loved ones if I really want to, this is very comforting.
I see our bodies as mere vessels for our mind and our soul, but yet I know all three must at some stage harmonise and I think it is at that moment when all three are connected as one, that we are truly freed by the body. I kind of make it sound like we are held in a prison and in a way we are, but it is a prison of our own making and once we recognise it for what it is then we can move on. That is why it is very important to look after and respect our bodies, but most of all love them.
This has proven very difficult for me as you may have read in my previous posts on the ‘self love’ issues. I must find a way to learn I am worthy of self love. Don’t get me wrong I love myself very much from inside I just can’t make the connection to the outside yet, but I am trying and learning.
Anyway dear Clara, this is only my version on death you will find many others will have similar or completely different versions but the most important is your own version. You must ask yourself what feels right to you, what you believe it to be like, to embrace and to grow from that, you must feel comfortable in order to welcome it.
I am very much saddened by those who are so scared of it and waste their lives running away from it instead of working towards it. For when they finally realise they had nothing to fear they will also realise they wasted their lives running away from something that was always going to catch them. I wish you luck in your search for answers and I hope I have not confused you in anyway. Once again this is only my version of death.
Love & Light my friend God Bless you

My father told when he came back to visit after his death how wonderful it was to be on the other side. He did not give any detail, he just said that our memory had to be cut off. If we remembered what it was like we would all kill ourselves tomorrow, and this world would be without human beings. I do know that there is an inbetween world that we all end up in. This is where ghost and waywards come in. Going into the light is a choice that we have to make and as I understand it we all can go into the light. Many get trapped in the inbetween world and there is no need for this to happen. Many are scsred of judgment and of hell and there is no need for that fear. We with the help of our higher-self judge ourselves and we do it fairly. The judgment is not about punishment, it is about what do I need to learn next. Or how can I over come some fear that I have. Punishment and retribution is a product of duality consciousness, the after life, after we go into the light is a world of non-duality consciousness, fully connected to all that is. This what I have heard from the other side and what I have percieved from my point of view. And my point of view can be clouded by my lack of personal clearing work.

Some believe both in Heaven and reincarnation Clara, to be honest I would think most that believe in reincarnation, believe that you enter Heaven for a while before you incarnate back on earth again.
Like Ishtahota said there needs to be a period where there is a defined cut from the past life before you can move forward to the next life. Just as in nature a seed may lay dormant for months and sometimes years before it grows, it was once a part of the plant before it fell to the floor. The plant may have died over the winter, like we do and the seed waits patiently in the earth till next spring, just as we wait in Heaven until the opportune time for our rebirth.
The seed as it grows next spring knows nothing of the plant it was once attached to, just as we know nothing or very little about our past life.
The problem I think many have is they see Heaven like something out of a fantasy movie, heaven is more like earth than you think, just a little more placid. As in the saying "as above so below" by Hermes Tries Megistus, the earth is a reflection of Heaven, just as you look into a pool of water you see a reflection of this world but a little less clear, the same applies to Heaven.
The earth is a slightly less clear reflection of Heaven. Heaven is brighter than this earth and clearer, but still it is very familiar, you would be surprised how familiar it is.
Once you die from this world you are reborn into another world, just as you died from one world before to be born into this world. The mediums of this world are the guides of the next world, the same process goes on there as here. People who have passed over seek help to communicate to earth, just as we seek to communicate to Heaven through a medium. In the spirit world they use guides, as it is not easy to communicate between worlds, not every soul can do it.
The spirit world dream as we do here, this is how many of your relatives try to communicate, especially if it is difficult to speak while you are awake. They enter your dreams to pass a message on, they might be day dreaming or dreaming themselves. Yet they connect in a very similar way, as we would attempt to see them in Heaven.
So as you can see Heaven is more like earth than you think, people do not suddenly become saints or enlightened, they just reside in a different place. A bit like a relative going to live in another country, they are not that far away but communication is difficult, besides the differences in cultures, weather and other things that come with living abroad from your homeland.
There is nothing to fear, only people to leave for a short while until you reunite again.

Dear Clara, For me death is simply a doorway, from the physical world to the higher vibrational world of spirit. We leave our bodies at the door, as we would take off our coats.
I believe that we spend some time reviewing our life on earth. If we have hurt others, or made errors of judgment, mistakes that had unfortunate consequences. We may relive the experiences, from all perspectives. There is no judgment or words of recrimination. But through going through this process, we see clearly what affect our behaviour or actions had on others. I believe we reflect on all these things as well as what we feel that we learned from our life on earth.
I do believe in reincarnation, and feel that our life plan for our next life, is based on the outcome of these life reviews. I believe the decision on when that new life is to begin is left entirely up to us.
While in heaven or the spirit world, I believe we have many opportunities to continue our spiritual evolvement and growth. When I think of this beautiful, peaceful place I see halls of learning as far as the eye can see, groups scattered here and there. Young souls, old souls deep in thought and reverie. Avidly listening to some silent lesson, beyond the range of mortal ears. I believe there are many wise souls there, old masters, teaching and sharing what they have learned.
I believe we can learn new skills if we want too, paint, learn to play a musical instrument, discover more about the healing arts, study philosophy, literature and art. I believe we can see our loved ones who have already passed into spirit. We will meet up and spend time together.
I like Leon, believe the environment is very similar to what we have on earth. I believe the colours are deeper, more vibrant and vivid, then anything we have ever seen here. There will be gardens more beautiful then we can imagine, the sweetest perfumes and colours so vivid that they shine with an iridescent light. And the love, the love is incomparable.
I do believe, that when we arrive there we will see what is familiar to us. What we expect in terms of our spiritual beliefs. So the Christians will see Jesus, the Buddhists the Buddha and the Muslims Mohamed. Because they are all aspects of God. I say this with no disrespect to anyone's spiritual beliefs, simply that this is what I believe. Love and light Kaz

Hi Clara: reading through the posts, there is nothing that I can add...like Kaz I believe that we go through a time of reflection, and understand what we may have done differently, and decide (with our instructors, if you will) what we did and did not get from this lifetime experience. I believe that it is our choice to reincarnate....to learn another lesson..for the evolvement of our soul. Is Heaven real? I believe so, from the words and visits that I have been privileged to have Is death to be feared?....No as it has been said...it is just another phase... love and light jennylynn

I would say that when we die, we go back home - reflect on what we've learned here on earth, make a new plan and come back So yes, reincarnation for me. Death seems like such a place of freedom where we aren't restricted by this world and our physical bodies - having said that, regular meditation keeps us connected with our spirit and those around us. xxx

Is it that hard to accept that when we die thats just it?no ones ever proved otherwise.
Everything else is just speculation or wishful thinking.enjoy it while you can.

Dear Blue, I get your point, and respect your opinion. But there are many people who do believe they have received proof of an afterlife. So for them there is no doubt. As with all things our beliefs are very much a personal thing. I always try to keep an open mind about most things in life. Because after all many proven things today, were once only theories wern't they. Love and light Kaz

There is no death. You do not die, but you confuse yourself with things that seem to.
Earth-bound entities seem to be born and live only to await death. Even they sense something is just not right. But there is no death so in truth, they were never alive. It is an illusion. It stems from the belief in beginnings and endings. It is a device to maintain the separation, between you and God.
You are forever safe in the Kingdom, where you sleep. It is only while you sleep that you can have nightmares. Hear the voice to awaken......

All of you are essentially correct, there is no single place or one thing that happens, anything can happen, nothing is guaranteed, it's different for each of us. Rest assured that you are where at some point you chose to be and you will go down the true path your soul chose to travel. It may not be a concious decision or a place you would prefer to be but it's decreed and decided upon and heralded by the state of your spiritual being when you pass.
For most of you it will be like a quiet walk in the park, or a ride on a gentle breeze on a soft spring day, or stepping off a cloud into that place where there is no darkness.
But for some of you... be afraid, be very afraid, there's no hiding, the gatekeeper doesn't make mistakes.

Really good question, Clara. Probably one of the best sources for defining the afterlife experience is Edgar Cayce. It would take many pages to even begin to cover his descriptions, so I'm just going to ask you look him up.

Thank you all for some wonderful posts on the subject. The subject been has one of my esoteric spiritual interests and explorations for almost the last 50 years,, since I had one of those death and return experiences at age of 13. Wouldn’t be impossible to put down all I have learned for myself on the subject. I see myself and others as SOULS who have temporary taken on a human skin and personality consciousness while living on earth. Depending on one’s life, blueprint and experiences here will somewhat influence what and where we go in an afterlife and how long. The immediate after death review of our life ( known as the bardo states ) is common for most people but what is seen is individual, brought to the consciousness by our higher self and guides. Most people at there death bed are met by their inner guides and teachers and Souls from the past ( family and friends of our soul group) who have already passed on. Most people attend there own funerals and try to send peaceful energy and assurance to loved ones still on earth,, using techniques, dreams and other means to tell them that they are still very much alive in consciousness.
At different stages of our afterlife it is very different and the scenery, ways of interacting is different. Part of inner journey as we awaken to ourselves as Souls who have lived multiple lives and to remember some of those experiences and review and learning takes place. The Hall of records etc. etc Life Between Lives is a fascinating study for me also.
To me there is nothing to fear of death, because in one sense we can never really die.
