Many people wondered who Jesus was and about where did He come from and they kept asking the same questions over and over again. Jesus knew this and gave them His answer. “I am the Good Shepherd.” Then He painted a word picture for them so they would know why He called Himself the Good Shepherd.
“I am the gate for the sheep.” Jesus told the people. “The shepherd stands at the gate to the pasture. He knows which sheep are his own and lets his sheep pass through the gate. He keeps away all the wild animals that would hurt his animals. The good shepherd does everything he can to take care of his sheep; he would even die to save them. And because the sheep are his, he does not run away when a wolf comes. He never leaves his sheep to be destroyed. I am the Good Shepherd. I know my sheep and my sheep know me. I lay down my life for the sheep so I can take it up again. This is something the Father lets me do.”
Many of the people felt good when they heard Jesus say that. They wanted to believe in Him as their very own Good Shepherd.
Those who want to serve God, need to learn how to be good shepherds, or fishers of men. People need nothing more than to be guided by the light of a friendly soul. That is all you have to be, a light to all those that need it.
