Dream about the Devil

First, I would like to say I'm happy I found this forum:)

Okay.. I have dreams like these often. Always about some dark forces and I would awake. I also have moments when I would drift to sleep and cant move. I would feel paralyzed and when I finally awake, I'm very scared. Those are the worst.

This particular dream that happened last night was very different from my normal battle with the devil and demons. It started off by me possessing a power to create what looked like orbs. I would make both my hands into a ball, rub them together, and when I open them, an orb would float away. In the dream, I didn't really know what to call them but now that I'm writing this, I think that that's what they were.

I can't really remember how I got to the point of seeing the devil, but I just know I would look in the mirror of my parents home, and he was there. He took on a lot of different forms but I knew it was him. He even pretended to be my cousin. At this point, I knew the only way to battle him was to read scriptures from the bible. It seemed to make him very angry that I wasn't scared and that I was reading the word. I didn't quite win, because I woke up but when I awoke and thought of everything, I knew I was winning. He was very unpredictable though so I'm not sure. I would like to know what all of this means.

When we dream of dark forces, really what we are seeing is a manifestation of our fears, our deepest anxieties. This can take many forms. It can be a person or an animal or just an atmosphere of menace that we can feel, but cannot see. This sensation you have as you drift off to sleep of being unable to move is something many people experience and it is known as sleep paralysis. It commonly occurs just before falling asleep or on waking suddenly.

One explanation for this is, that it is to do with what happens to our bodies when we sleep. To prevent sleep walking or thrashing around in our sleep when we are dreaming. A naturally occurring chemical is released into the body which affects the muscles. It acts like a muscle relaxant which is designed to immobilise the body.

What is happening is that your body has relaxed to the point of sleep but your conscious awareness is still there. It doesn't happen that often, but it appears, being over tired, unwell or anxious can trigger it off.

A second explanation is that it to do with astral travel. The astral body has slipped out of or is in the process of slipping out of the body and a sudden surge of awareness makes the sleeper aware. More often then not this sensation is felt when the astral body is slipping back into the body. That is why people who wake with a sudden start from sleep, seem to be more aware of it.

In dream symbology the devil represents the lower, negative aspect of the self. The part of you that does not want you to accept responsibility for your actions. Whether it is about blaming others for difficult life situations you are currently in, or for things that have happened in the past.

The devil can appear in dreams when people are feeling unhappy, and constantly dwelling on the negative in life rather then the positive. In your waking life have you been feeling depressed or fed up with life or the people around you? Or have you been feeling particular anxious and fearful about something?

I found the part of your dream where you were holding balls of energy in your hands, very interesting. The way you describe it, reminds me of the healing energy balls we create within our healing group. This energy is freely available to all who open themselves up to connect to the universal healing energy. So for me this is a very positive ability. The dream may be showing you that you have this ability and that you should focus more on it.

Healing energy, is pure unconditional love. It creates, it makes things better, it is very positive. Seeing this energy and feeling you have control over it, for me is telling you, that YOU have the power within you to overcome any feelings of negativity and depression you have in your life. You are not without strength and power, you are not at the mercy of what life throws at you. You have the resources within you to draw on to make your life better, happier and more fulfilling.

Mirrors in dream symbology, represent the SELF i.e. YOU, meeting yourself. It is a way of seeing the world through your own eyes, through your attitudes to life. It can also mean that you have a tendency in life to be critical of others, and what this is saying is, instead of being critical of others, take a good look at yourself. Though to be honest, I believe, this is more about you being critical of yourself, then of others.

Seeing the devil in your reflection, is about you seeing the things about yourself you do not like then about the world around you. Do you have a tendency to be hard on yourself, or to focus too much on your 'perceived' negative qualities, then to see all the lovely positive qualities you have? People are rarely just one thing, they are a mix. Depending on how happy they are in life, or confident in their own abilities, will indicate how high or low the balance between the two kinds of qualities are.

Praying in dreams indicates a real need to reconnect with or spend more time developing a spiritual life. Prayer is extremely powerful, and it is clear from the dream it does give you comfort and a sense of feeling safe. Connecting to this high spiritual energy will help you to focus more on the positive things in life. It will also help you to connect with what we call the 'higher self'. That part of you that is intuitive and wise and will help guide you through life.

A very interesting dream Kaykanysha. Though on the surface it may seem a frightening and unpleasant dream. It actually is a very powerful one. Full of insight into your current state of mind and with some clear messages from your higher, wiser self giving you clues as to how you can help yourself in life. It is showing you, that you do have the ability to cope with whatever difficult situations you may find yourself in. You just need to have faith in yourself.

Thanks so much for the insight! I have experienced leaving my body before but it was only once and very brief, because when I realize that's what was happening, I immediately returned back to my body. That night I was going through a series of dreams, and I was trying to wake up but I was so tired that I couldn't. Then an urgency came over me that I needed to get up and I got up so fast that I really didn't realize what I've done until I was already in my living room. I really thought I was woke, but then I noticed that everything in my home was weirdly dim and that's when I immediately knew something was very off. That's when I thought I must be still sleeping and I was pulled back to my body real fast.

I will be coming back with more dreams because I really liked that you replied back, and the insight you gave really made me think. I would love to know more about astral travel.
