Oh, Great Spirit Whose voice I hear in the winds, And whose breath gives life to all the world, hear me, I am small and weak, I need your strength and wisdom. Let me walk in beauty and make my eyes ever behold the red and purple sunset. Make my hands respect the things you have made and my ears sharp to hear your voice. Make me wise so that I may understand the things you have taught my people. Let me learn the lessons you have hidden in every leaf and rock.
I seek strength, not to be greater than my brother, but to fight my greatest enemy - myself. Make me always ready to come to you with clean hands and straight eyes. So when life fades, as the fading sunset, my Spirit may come to you without shame. (translated by Lakota Sioux Chief Yellow Lark in 1887) [/b][/right]

Dear Silvia and Carl,
I have always loved this prayer and wanted to share it with you. I am so pleased that you like it.
For those of us who have a deep love and affinity with the earth and nature, it really resonates doesn't it. A very natural and powerful prayer to the great spirit who watches over us all.
I was thrilled to actually be able to get a photograph of the Native American Chief Yellow Lark who wrote it.
Love and light Kaz

A strong prayer, Kaz, and one that resonates deep inside. I think that I will post this one on my bathroom mirror...one of the first things to see each morning.

It is a beautiful prayer. American indians are very close to my heart. Their beliefs ring so many bells with me. I remember watching an American Indian dance many years ago, along with a beautiful chant that i couldnt understand, then out of the blue i sobbed, those words meant something i guess. They need no books to learn of truths, they simply sit in silence amongst nature, and listen. Their words are but simple ones, yet so powerful.....Kevin.

May I also add a BIG thank you too Karen, for sharing such a beautiful prayer. I do feel so small at times and so ignorant yet so willing to learn, even if the lesson is hard to understand or I resist at first. I love all nature and think we can all learn so much from it. L & L

Such a beautiful prayer, Sparkle It reaches deep inside with visions of open prairies, and wild wolves that howl at the moonlight. Of spirit buffalo wandering in vast herds. Of tee-pee scented fires, carried on the wind. Of native american indians at one with their world. Thank you for the inspiration - I feel another poem waiting to be born

American Indian Wedding Prayer
Now you will feel no rain, For each of you will be shelter to the other. Now you will feel no cold, For each of you will be warmth to each other. Now you will feel no loneliness, For each of you will be comfort to the other. Now you are two persons, But there is only one life before you; Go forward from this place, To enter into the days of your life together.
