Hi all, I heard some people talking about Wiccans. They spoke as if they were christian or god fearing people that have witchcraft like powers. I always thought of Wiccans to be witches (to be honest I thought they were "male" witches!) ...which to me is not of God. Am I incorrect in thinking that? Do Wiccans believe in God? Do they go to church? If they do, then does their powers come from God? Are there any wiccans (or people who know about them) that can shed some light on this group of people? Blessings Dee

I am probably not the best person to answer this question Dee, as I see nothing in the Wiccan ways which I wish to follow. I am not for rituals or spells, or witchcraft. All of these things I can do another way a purer way. I have no need for incantations, or crazy spells. I have full belief in God and that is all that matters for me.
Wiccans do belive in God, but for me there are too many mentions of the devil and the dark side to be beneficial for the aspirant. They have no churches as such, the sad thing is many are self taught as there really is not a governing body or a set standard for people to follow. Too many watch programmes on tv like charmed, and take to wicca or witchcraft. Maybe they like the charm of how it is dressed up.
But for me there is no great philosophy, there is no great wisdom to be learned. I can live in harmony with nature and take a naturalistic approach to things without becoming a wiccan.
Witchcraft can be a very dangerous art, in the hands of uneducated people it can cause more harm than good. I have heard more stories of people getting into trouble through wicca than people finding peace.
I am not saying all of Wicca is bad, what I am saying is that there is a better way, a purer way, yet sadly too many people get embroiled in the dark side of it, for it to be worth advocating as a spiritual practice to take up.

Thanks for your answer Leon. I wasn't sure about it myself. It seems to me that they are trying to make "Wicca" (if that's the name of the practice) more mainstream. IE TV shows such as Charmed. And I'm starting to hear more and more about it. I asked my mom (who's in her 70s) if she heard of it. She said no and from what I told her she said it sounded like a "dressed up version of Hoodoo!"
I'm sure there is a dark side of it. But I just don't know enough (more than what I can google lol) it to say one way or the other.
Thanks again Blessings Dee
