In the Name of Allah the Most Beneficent and Most Merciful
There are 5 pillars of Islam
1. Belief in Allah , the one and only true God.
2. To pray (salah) 5 times a day facing the Kaaba in Mecca.
3. Pay Zakat (charity) 2.5% of earning.
4. Fasting (fasting sunrise to sunset) on the 9th month of the Islamic year.
5. Haj , pilgrimage to Mecca a least once in a lifetime.
In Islam everyone is born pure without sin (a muslim), therefore as a person lives his/her life there is a battle between good and evil from within each of us, and thus in society. The test of life is to increase your good deeds as oppose to your bad deeds and to pass the test on the Day of Judgement and gain entry to Jannat (paradise) Inshaallah (if Allah(swt) will’s).
Iblis (Satan) is determined to lead mankind astray until the Day of Judgement, so Allah(swt) sent down prophets to every nation to guide people to the right path. Today there are no more prophets to come as the last of the prophets Muhammad(pbuh) has already been. To guide us he left the Quran (the word of Allah(swt)) and the Hadiths(the saying and actions of the Prophet).
The prophet Muhammad(pbuh) was the living interpretation of the Quran, his every action and saying was a mirror reflection of the Quran with the guidance of Allah(swt). So for muslims and non-muslims the study of the Quran and Hadiths is of utmost importance. Every time you read the Quran with tafsir (understanding) you gain a new and more depth insight of each and every verse, also an input from a learned scholar of Islam is very important to correctly interpret each verse (just as reading books on medicine does not make you a doctor without a professor of medicine guiding you over many years).
