Hello everybody, I thought it would be nice to have a place where we could discuss Reiki, and put any Reiki questions we might have. A place, where we can share our Reiki stories, what Reiki means to us and how it has affected our lives. It would also be lovely to hear your healing stories. Either from the perspective of being a Reiki healer, or from the other side, having received Reiki. The God Light has many Reiki healers and Reiki Master Teachers among its community. I myself have been a practicing Reiki Healer for over 7 years and I would be happy to share my experiences. Love and light Kaz

I love Reiki and the Dr Usui story, the christian monk who found the sanskrit texts and then put them back into practice. I did not know he had connections with the celts Alexandrafalcon, did he ever travel that far from Japan?

I am a Reiki Master of over 10 years in the Usui Shiki Ryoho lineage. I must state here that the only lineages, that are truly part of Reiki are listed below, if your lineage is not one of the following, you are probably not practising Reiki.
There is no problem with a Reiki practioner who brings their own ideas to a Reiki healing session, but please do not call it Reiki, as it is something else.
If you gained a certificate online, that certificate is also probably worthless. I would question the honesty and integrity of the Reiki Master who would do this.
Eastern Reiki A modern term, indicating lineages of Reiki that do not include Chujiro Hayashi. Lineages may include e.g. Usui, Soke Dai.
Gendai Reiki Ho Meaning: Modern Reiki A system founded by Hiroshi Doi who trained with Mieko Mitsui, Kimiko Koyama, Hiroshi Ohta, Manaso and Chiyoko Yamaguchi.
Hayashi Reiki Kenkyukai Meaning Hayashi Reiki Research Society A term used by Chujiro Hayashi for what he taught.
Japanese Reiki A modern generic term, generally indicating that the practitioner is practising Western Reiki with the addition of techniques from Japan that were released or re-released to the West from 1999.
Jikiden Reiki Meaning directly taught Reiki A style of Reiki with the lineage coming through Chujiro Hayashi, Wasaburo Sugano and Chiyoko Yamaguchi
Komyo Reiki Meaning: Enlightenment Reiki A style of Reiki with the lineage coming through Chujiro Hayashi, Wasaburo Sugano, Chiyoko Yamaguchi and Hyakuten Inamoto, therefore the same origin as Jikiden Reiki but closer in content to other ‘standard’ Reiki lineages.
Raku Kei Reiki A style of Reiki developed by Iris Ishikuro/Arthur Robertson, adding in elements from e.g. Johrei. Many practitioners of Reiki have this style as part of their lineage through William Rand. Lineages come through Hayashi, Takata, Ishikuro, Robertson
Reiki Plus® Founded by David Jarrell. Lineages come through Hayashi, Takata, Samdahl/McCullough/Furumoto, Jarrell. The style teaches Usui Shiki Ryoho with additional metaphysical elements.
Reido Reiki Meaning: Spiritual Way Reiki Founded by Fuminori Aoki. Fuminori Aoki learnt Western Reiki from Mieko Mitsui (Barbara Weber Ray lineage). Aoki sensei was also inspired and influenced by people in the direct lineage of Mikao Usui sensei. Reido Reiki is a blend a blend of traditional Japanese Reiki and Western Reiki. It emphasises meditation and ‘living a Reiki way of life’.
Tera-Mai™ Reiki Founder: Kathleen Milner Lineages come through: Patrick Ziegler, Tom Seaman, Phoenix Summerfield, Kathleen Milner. Style includes Reiki plus additional elements.
Tibetan Reiki A generic term. Mostly includes elements from Raku Kei Reiki/Usui Tibetan Reiki. Lineages generally will include Takata/Ishikuro/Robertson. May also be used to mean Wei Chi Reiki
The Radiance Technique A style of Reiki with the lineage coming through Chujiro Hayashi, Hawayo Takata and Barbara Weber Ray
Usui Reiki Ryoho Meaning: Usui spiritual method healing method Used by people with lineages that come through the Gakkai (Society) in Japan; Taketomi, Koyama, Doi.
Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai Meaning: Society for Usui spiritual healing method Lineages that come through the Gakkai (Society) in Japan coming through Ushida, Taketomi, Watanabe etc.
Usui Reiki/Traditional Usui Reiki A generic term used by teachers to indicate that they may not align themselves to any one system. They may teach elements from a number of different Reiki styles. However, it may be equally true that teachers from specific styles named below may also do this too.
Usui Shiki Ryoho Meaning: Usui style healing Generally used by practitioners whose lineages come through Chujiro Hayashi, Hawayo Takata and Phyllis Furumoto
Usui/Tibetan Reiki A style founded by William Rand incorporating elements from Raku Kei Reiki, Usui Shiki Ryoho and, in the last 10 years, Japanese techniques. Lineages come from Hayashi, Takata, Ishikuro, Robertson, Diane McCumber/Ishikuro, Robertson, Marlene Shilke/Furumoto, Carrell Farmer, Leah Smith.

Great teachers honor the original Reiki teachings. Usui Sensai was a genius. A teacher of Usui Reiki has the responsibility of making all effort to keep the original system intact.
Originally the system was called "Usui-Do" or Usui's way and is deeply rooted in spirituality.
Reiki is my passion. Linda

No Lindae, Celtic reiki is reiki based on the reiki energy we receive from the earth and plants. Our symbols are the ancient celt symbols for tree's and plants. Where Usuri energy comes down from the universe our energy comes up from the earth and plants and from within ourselves. There is a lot of info on it through the Celtic Reiki Federation of which I am a member and have been for many many years. It's an interesting and beautiful art.

Hi Alexandra, I must clarify that this group is not in agreeance with any group or federation, that is not following the correct procedure of Reiki.
Firstly, any fool can set a federation up, you only need a group of people to subscribe to your idea, that does not mean the idea has to be true or ethical.
Reiki is healing with universal energy, yet you say this so called Celtic Reiki is healing with earth & plant energy etc, if this is so, how can it even carry Reiki in it's name, as it is not doing things in the Reiki way.
You cannot go to a tennis match with a cricket bat, or a football match with a rugby ball, you go against the rules of the sport. Likewise with Reiki you cannot bring something else into a healing session and even say it is connected to Reiki, that would be misleading people, and far worse misleading yourself.
I have heard all sorts of so called Reiki healing alternatives, from Angel Reiki to Shamanic Reiki, all are not Reiki, someone has sat there and thought you know what, I will set something up so I can stand out from the crowd.
By all means offer Reiki and anything else that might aid healing, but please do not call it Reiki.
It makes you think whatever next, what will someone next make up and associate with Reiki. The whole thing makes Reiki one big joke, it hurts the guys who have learned Reiki properly, through Masters who have been taught a traditional way.
It makes our experience and certificates, worthless, the more that Reiki is played with by people, who are out to make money. That is all they are doing, making money from fools who believe them.
The biggest problem with Reiki is, that there is no governing body, that oversees it all, people can make Reiki Master certificates up and get away with it. There is no one to stop them. there are federations, who will understand the lineage, but there is no group that can keep Reiki in line.
It is a shame, as it has just made Reiki a joke, it was not this way 15 years ago. A Reiki master did not become one so easily, they had to earn the right to become one. Now I see so called Reiki Masters, who say to me, I have only healed a few people, I need more experience they say. Surely it is the fault of the Reiki master who gave them a certificate, for giving away certificates to people who have had no experience in healing.
Anyone reading this who is interested in learning Reiki, I would ask you to follow a traditional method, learn in the company of a Reiki Master that you respect, a good Reiki Master will make you work for that certificate, and only a true Reiki Master would make another Master who had gained enough experience.
How would you feel if your doctor said, I only become a doctor last week, I have helped a couple of people out, but my experience is limited. How would you feel if that same inexperienced Doctor then went to teach other new Doctors, and so on. The world would become crazy in no time, so why allow people to do the same in another field of health care.
You would not want an inexperienced nurse, a chiropodist who had never done many feet, so why would you want Reiki from an inexperienced person, let alone a certificate from a Reiki Master who had not got his or her hands dirty.
Wake up and see things for what they are, bring Reiki some credibility back, or you can just follow the crowd with the next Reiki fad. It will be Alien Reiki next, that is how bad the jokes has gone. I would not be surprised if I googled that, to find some fool doing it. Need I say any more.

Thank you Leon.
It is truly a disservice to change something as sacred as the original teachings of Reiki.
Alexandra.. please don't tell me "No" You, don't know anything about my history with Reiki and what I do.

While diversity in many instances is a good thing… in this instance I have to agree with Leon and Linda. The original teachings should not be cheapened and turned into something it’s not.
There are many old and new healing techniques out there today and one may work better than another for any given individual. This does not mean that one is better than another… it is simply diversity, just as we have cultural and religious diversity… they all have something for someone. However, diversity is not piggy backing on an original concept of another’s culture and beliefs.
Celtic spirituality is rich in its own beliefs, rituals, prayers, symbols, etc… there is no need to change its healing modalities into something else. It is steeped deeply in the love of nature, love and respect for art and poetry, and uses shamanic healing techniques.’ Hands on healing’ is also used… as it is used in many other cultures. Nowhere in its deep and rich history does it use the word ‘Reiki’ as Reiki is a Japanese word/label.
Likewise druidic healing also uses shamanic journeying as part of its healing techniques as well as hands –on healing… and they don’t run around calling it ‘Reiki’ … they respect their beliefs and techniques and don’t try to change them to suit popular culture.
Anyone who’s done any deep and serious research into the many cultures and their beliefs, knows that respect and humility of that technique is the key… anything else is simply ego based and therefore loses its strength and ability to do what has been asked for…
Leon has given us a good in-depth posting of what Reiki is and is not. I would suggest that those who practice other healing modalities feel free to give us an understanding of what they practice without calling it Reiki… stand up for what you believe in let its name stand up proudly… don’t sneak it in under the cloak of a well-known name. That will certainly not give it any credibility.
I myself am a spiritual healer, Reiki master/teacher, and I do shamanic journeying in some instances, I also use colour, imagery, and sound healing. I've been healing in one capacity or another for over 15 yrs. Each modality stands on it's own merits. When I use Reiki on someone I use Reiki... when I use Reiki and another technique then, I acknowledge both modalities... they do not all fall under Reiki. That would be misleading to the person I'm working with as well as misleading (lying) to myself. There is no shame in spelling out which modalities you use...
Anyway that's my two cents... God bless, Silvia

For those of you who happen to read this.
Reiki is a powerful beautiful healing art. It has survived tumultuous times and is now in hundreds of countries. Many of the original Masters endured severe hardships and sacrifices to maintain the wholeness and integrity of Reiki. Some kept Reiki secret and underground at the risk of their own lives to preserve it. One Master due to his commitment to Reiki and anticipation of WWII took his own life. His cultural training and passion for Reiki did not allow him to support the cruelties of war. He saw no other way. I have been involved in Reiki now for about 30 years and have personally witnessed and experienced some of Reiki’s struggles.
Our Reiki system is not broken. You do not have the right to try to fix it or change it. From your limited perspective, how dare you? If you choose to create your own energy system.. do it! But, do not call it by the name of our system, Reiki. Call it “Susie’s New Energy System” whatever! And, if you sacrifice and work and endure for year after year, it might too make it into hundreds of countries and have the popularity of Reiki. Good luck on that!
In short, don’t take a ride on us.. Leave us alone.. Reiki is not broken!

I would like to do a Reiki course. What should I be looking for in my choice of teacher. There are so many people advertising their services, how do I know which teacher to choose? My friend says I should phone them up and speak to them first and ask some questions. But I dont know what questions to ask. I hope you can help.

Thank you Ruby for your concern.
First I suggest you do some research prior to contacting a Teacher. Finds some books that pertain to authentic Reiki. These books should talk about the origins of Reiki in Japan and include the names of Dr. Usui, Dr. Chujiro Hayashi and Hawayo Takata.
Write down some questions to ask your potential Teacher about Reiki and the origins of Reiki. Obviously, any good Teacher will be able to immediately answer these questions.
Ask the potential Teacher if they have changed or added anything to Reiki. As stated before.. Great Teachers Honor Traditions. I would personally stay away from anyone who has change or added anything to Reiki. If something different is offered, it should be identified as something separate from Reiki. Therefore, keeping the Reiki tradition intact. And, make sure the Teacher will attune you on a one on one basis. Insist on this. Many will try to attune you with a distance attunement. Receiving a Reiki Attunement is a personal ceremony and must be done on a personal basis. A Reiki Attunement is sacred.
Also, the Teacher should inform you that learning Reiki is a process and does take many practitioner hours. My students must do many "Case Studies" over many months. And, the learning of Reiki never ends. It is a path and a new way of life. It is about the journey and not the destination.
A great Teacher will make you want to bookmark your life as "before Reiki and after Reiki". And a Teacher will be available for you to ask questions.
Finally, listen to your heart.
I hope this helps.. we are here to answer any questions.
Thank you Linda

Oh and I want to add..
Even after you think you have found a good teacher.. Your “free will” is intact and you can still decide on finding another. You are allowed to question this so called “Reiki Authority”. Many students find value in participating in several classes from various teachers.
A Reiki Teacher should never force allegiance on you. Reiki is compassion based healing. Ego mentality has no place here.
This is about your journey Enjoy! Linda

Dear Barry, Reiki is a Japanese form of Spiritual healing. If you have read my first post starting this thread, it will tell you in more detail what it entails. Suffice it to say, it is a wonderful gentle healing energy, that works on the Mind, body and spirit. The healer, connects with the energy of the recipient and then acts as a conduit for the healing energy to flow. The idea is, that the energy, goes where it is needed and it also acts as a catalyst a kick start if you will, to help revitalise and rejuvenate the recipients own energy and inbuilt healing mechanism. This can be needed for many reasons. The recipient may have suffered ill health for some time or is depressed. These conditions lower the bodies own defense mechanisms and can suppress the immune system. Addictions can be another reason for our own ability to heal ourselves affectively being compromised. I would recommend for you the crystal Hematite. It is good for all addictive conditions, especially alcoholism. Hematite takes its name from the Greek word for 'blood'. Which is descriptive of the colour seen in powdered Hematite. It is a stone that most healers will not be without. It works extremely well at restoring, strengthening and regulating blood flow. Sufferers of cramp and spasms notice an immediate improvement in their health by keeping Hematite close to their skin. Hematite grounds negative energies that manifest as stress. It helps to release us from compulsive habits like drinking, over eating and smoking and from nervous obsessive behaviour. Hematite can be carried in the pockets in the form of polished tumbled stones or worn as a bracelet or necklace. They are black with a silvery sheen. The following are suggested Aromatherapy essential oils which are for Anxiety, Depression and Guilt. All conditions that seem to go hand in hand for those who suffer with an addictive problem or in trying to recover from addictions. Anxiety: Lavender, Geranium, Palma Rosa, Jonquil, begot, Chamomile, Basil, Cypress, Frankincense, Geranium Jasmine, Juniper, Melissa, Neroli, Ylang ylang Depression/Guilt: Jasmine, Geranium, Lavender, Bergamot, Neroli, Nutmeg, Clary sage, Grapefruit, Sandalwood, Ylang ylang, Rose, Vetiver I hope this helps Barry. Please feel free to ask, if you have any more questions. Love and light Kaz

Hi Everyone,
Today was my first day of Reiki. I found the experience to be a truly peaceful one and I look forward to making it a daily part of my life.
I still have one more day to go to complete the process but the two week interval in-between wil give me enough time to practise as I have already been attuned.
Part of the process included performing Reiki on my mother. This experience was unusual, I felt light-headed initially and after I was finished, a bit drowsy. The Reiki Teacher indicated that this may have been the amount of energy being used by the person.
I would love to know if anyone has ever had a similar experience. Other than that, the attunement process was very pleasant with no unusual feelings.
Thank you for the opportunity to share!
Happiness & Peace to everyone Shar

Hi Sharm, I did remember today, was your Reiki day, and was wondering how you got on. The lightheadedness you were experiencing could be down to not grounding yourself properly. When your Reiki Master was talking to you about channeling the energy, did she discuss grounding with you and the visualisation techniques to help you with this? Many, who are new to channeling Reiki energy or using any other method, do sometimes experience feeling tired afterward. The reasons for this can range from giving of your own energy as well as the reiki. This is quite common in the beginning. It might be that you are simply feeling tired from the excitement and the nervous energy that many feel when doing something new. I doubt its to do with your mum taking too much reiki energy in. The most commonly felt sensation by a healer when giving Reiki to someone who takes a lot in, is a overwhelming rush of the energy coming through. This can make you feel lightheaded and a little shaky. Its like plugging yourself into an electric socket lol at least that is my experience of it. I hope this has helped sharm. Please don't hesitate to ask if there is anything else you would like to know, or if you want to talk more about what I have told you. Love and light Kaz

Hi Kaz,
Thank you so much for your post and all the information you provided. My teacher did mention grounding and I also saw some information on it in the handbook that was given to us. I will read up on it further for sure. I also saw that there are special stones that can be used for grounding like hematite (which you mentioned above). Would you be able to suggest any other techniques you know of that can assit with grounding? I would be happy to hear more about it.
I make it a habit to do Reiki everyday on myself, my food and anyone else willing to receive it. Thanks again Kaz. Looking forward to more of your helpful information.
Love and Happiness Shar
