I have just finished reading Rosemary Altea's book The Eagle & The Rose. For those of you who are interested in Spirit Guides and the relationship they have with their Medium, the book goes into that in some detail. Rosemary's Spirit Guide is a Native American Medicine man called Grey Eagle. They have been together for over 20 years, and have built a very loving and mutually beneficial relationship.
I felt it demonstrated beautifully, the role of a Spirit Guide. Not to inform or influence, but to nurture, guide and empower. She emphasises constantly, how he does not tell her anything, but encourages her to look for the answers within herself. Though his role is also one of protector, not only for her, but for the wonderful people in spirit that communicate through her. It also includes many of the cases she has worked on. The book is very sensitively done and at times extremely moving.
The author herself has had a very difficult life and experienced hardship, physical and mental abuse as a child. It never ceases to surprise me, just how often this is the case with a lot of sensitives and mediums. I read Mia Dolan's book The Gift, and was shocked at the hardships and abuse that she had also suffered in her life.
I often think that those who chose to walk a spiritual path suffer more then the average person when it comes to emotional and physical pain in their lives. Rosemary believes and I agree with her, that it is something we deliberately chose to experience, before beginning our earth journey.
I believe it is through our suffering and pain that we grow and mature spiritually. Developing our gifts of empathy, compassion and understanding. This realisation doesn't make life any easier, but on reflection, realising that there is always a purpose behind everything we experience in life, does somehow make it easier to bear.
I am about to start on her next one, Proud Spirit so I will let you know how I get on with it. If anyone else has read this book, I would love to hear their thoughts about it and discuss it more.
Love and light
