I've been having experiences with sleep paralysis ever since I entered puberty. It's gotten more intense as I've gotten older. It used to just start with me not being able to move, call out, or even open my eyes. As I got older it changed to where I could open my eyes, and look around the room where I was. At first I thought I was just lucid dreaming, but then I learned that I wasn't. I learned by laying in front of the tele one evening, and then I suddenly slipped into a bout of the paralysis. I couldn't move or speak, but I could see... and I could just as well continue watching the program on the screen. As I got older, it went from just looking around the room to "strange" things happening before me. I've seen shadows, globular black things floating in the air, I've heard voices distinctly speaking and saying things, and at other times whispering, buzzing, and chattering. I've heard bells, seen men, had a poster come out at me, and I've felt and seen myself carried out of my bed by something I couldn't see. I've never practiced using any drugs of any sorts, so this definitely isn't caused by any substances. I don't even drink or smoke cigs. And, as far as I know, I don't have any psychoses that causes delirium or hallucinations. Actually, my mother and sister have had similar experiences, but not at all near as intense as my own. Last Night's ExperienceLast night ( 10/13/2010), I was asleep on the couch in the living room. My father sleeps in the living room too on a roll-away bed. He lets me sleep on the couch because I can't sleep in my own room (which I will be solving soon, thanks to Flora). Anyway, my dad got up in the middle of the night to use the restroom, his moving about woke me out of a light sleep. I just laid there, waiting for myself to fall asleep, and then I couldn't move. I looked at my feet and watched my bright pink blanket turn green blue, and then every thing kind of "twitched" and "tweaked." Like my entire range of vision would jerk, like a videotape malfunctioning. then I felt a strong pull on my left hip... and if gravity were tugging especially hard on my left hip, pulling me in there. Next thing I know. I was standing, but kind of floating. My dad was still waddling slowly to the hall where the restroom is. So i kinda stumbled behind him... but I couldn't feel myself step, or hear it either. I remembered being very, very, VERY off balance. I leaned on the doorway to the hall, and watched my dad walk to the bathroom, i then leaned forward to fall on him for support, and, next thing I know, I snap out of everything. I'm still laying on the couch! I never physically got up at all... I did look over at my father's cot to see if he were laying there, to see if maybe I was just dreaming. But then I saw and heard the bathroom door shut... He went to the restroom. I wasn't dreaming. I was following him but not physically. I know how insane this sounds. And yes, I have been a bit stressed as of late with searching for a job, so maybe the stress has gotten me out of touch with here, with the now. Maybe I'm drifting or something. I'm going to continue posting any episodes of paralysis I have in here. I would love to hear what anyone else has to say about all of this. Thank you

CandyAndy,
Your not alone, your having an OBE or what is pretty close to and OBE. Out of Body experience. What you are seeing is across the veil. Other dimensions or possibly an etheric double of "here". Some people just are naturally prone to having more OBE's than others. It is usually due to overactive penal gland. (Sorry my spelling is not that great)
I think the buzzing is probably your vibrations..That would be my best guess but I understand where you are coming from.
What were you trying to achieve, did you not want to do be able to do it? This isn't something you can turn off. I don't know if anyone has heard of Robert Monroe? Well known Out of Body Traveler. For more information on this topic or research on your issue, he has plenty of books out there that are available to you.

Thank you both. I'll do some research on Robert Monroe. I don't know what I was trying to achieve. Maybe some closure than I wasn't alone or nuts lol. But sharing my experiences in a place where I'm not looked at as strange or crazy is great for me as well

I also experience sleep paralysis due to OBE's for the past 10 years. It doesn't happen with every OBE but I do hate it when it does happen. If I am alone when it happens, I just calm myself down to get out of it. If I start moaning in the middle of the night, my husband knows to gently shake me to get out of it. I notice it happens when I am really tired and will happen within the first 15 minutes of sleep. Or it will happen in the morning after I turn off the alarm for my husband and I go back to sleep. He goes to work 2 hours earlier than I do. I've heard and seen things too when having an OBE. Sometimes I don't know that I am having an OBE. When I find myself not being able to turn on the light in my bedroom, I realize I must be having an OBE. At that point, I will tell myself to fly and when I float I know its an OBE. I don't know how to control it, it just happens. It's good to know you are not the only one it happens too.

You're not alone in this. It's actually more common than you think, from what I've learned about it. I've had at least one confirmed OBE experience, when I was in my mid-late teens. I say "confirmed" because I actually saw the place, in our physical reality, several months later. I called my mom and she confirmed that I had never been there before. Around that same age, I starting having, what I then described as, demon attacks. I would be in "limbo," between sleep and wake. I would have the "paralysis" just as you described: couldn't move, say anything and thought I felt a presence, which scared the living daylights out of me. I would think over and over in my mind, "I rebuke you in the name of God." After a couple of episodes, I was scared to try to sleep. I actually called my preacher. Thankfully, I had left Baptist religion for non-denominational. He listened and explained that I should do the same thing but in the name of "Jesus" rather than "God". This seemed to work for a while, until things started happening in my dreams. At that point, I attributed it to Satan going into my dreams to twist around what had been working and make me think I had no power. I would have the dreams from time to time and wake up in almost a cold sweat, freaking out. Could not, would not sleep alone, especially without a light on. I now realize that the "demon attacks" were merely almost out of body experiences. I am no longer afraid of them and look at them with curiosity and excitement. Through the past few months, I've made a couple of deliberate attempts that weren't quite successful. A couple of times I could get to the point where I was tingling all over, intensely (which I've come to realize is a sign of going into that state). Once, I had even fallen asleep then awoke, eyes still shut, but aware of my consciousness. I realized I was tingling, so tried to relax into it, so I could go on the journey. I suddenly realized that I was hearing singing, a woman's voice that reminded me of Patsy Cline and sounded a bit like an old radio. I tried to focus on the lyrics, to remember them when I was done. I guess I fell back to sleep because that's all I remember. Hearing the singing was very odd for me, because it was something I hadn't previously experienced. I'm looking forward to being able to consciously do this now. ;D Now, as far as feeling as if someone was carrying me, I haven't experienced that part. Kinda hope I can skip that part Hope this helps you, even if just a little. Love, light and blessings!!!

I began having sleep paralysis at the age of 14 , initially I had to go to sleep with a hand held computer game because the noise at the beginning of each game would pull me out of the paralysis when I pushed the start button.I have done alot of research on this topic and I have seen doctors and neurologists .Ideally the body should reach a state of relaxation as the brain slows down ready to go into deep sleep where dreaming occurs but in people who suffer with sleep paralysis what happens is , as the body is relaxing the brain relaxes very quickly and reaches deep sleep where dreaming occurs and this results in visual and auditory hallucinations. When sleep paralysis occurs going into sleep it is called hypnogogic and vice versa it is called hypnopompic. I hope this helps

Hi Candy How fascinating to read you thread. I have only had one such experience about 20 years ago, I had the paralysis and couldn't speak, I saw myself sitting on the floor altho I was actually phsically lying in bed at the time. It was over very quick and it is something I have not told many people about for fear they would think me a bit mad or making it up! So it was lovely to read your post this morning to confirm that I am neither mad or making things up ! love n light anniekaka

Thank you all for your support! Wow! i definitely don't feel alone anymore such amazing stories.I've had a recent OBE that I wanna update about.
It was sometime in May this year, 2011, I think.
I was laying on my couch with my dad, and I had thought I fell completely asleep. There was no paralysis at all this time. But the next thing I know I was physically flying through the dark night sky! I was flying through the clouds, and the sky had that dark purple-blue tone it gets during overcasts at night sometimes.
I landed inside a house, I went completely through the roof. The wallpaper looked old Victorian, and was a maroon with black detailing. I remember looking at an old fashioned tape recorder on some dark cherry wood dresser, and the wall shifting colors. I saw a man who was handicapped lived there. He had a cane, and was maybe in his forties. A black beard I think. He was talking to someone. But time would lapse and I would move from room to room without even realizing it. I would loose my footing sometimes and begin to float towards the ceiling like I was made full of helium.
I then realized what I was doing. It was my FIRST REAL TRAVEL! I got all excited and bored of that place. So I had the idea to go to England and try to find SparkleKaz! XD I love her dearly lol. I don't know how or where she lives. I thought maybe my energetic connection to her would guide me.
So I flew into the dark night sky again. I was moving so so fast! Next thing I know. I was in a place... that I thought was England, but who knows. I thought it was her house or place of living, but who knows that too. All I know is, there was a small cement porch on the side of the house, with maybe a 4 or 5 or more cement steps that went up to a small cement stoop. I believe it had a small brick wall around it. Well, I wanted to try to go inside, but there was a cat outside the door. It was less than happy to see me lol. Maybe it could see me, I don't know. It was dark in color. But I know when I reached for the door handle/knob (not sure which it was), I blasted back into the sky and popped up on my couch, wide awake. I was blown away! Like wow! I can't believe I forgot to tell Kaz about this lol.
Anyway! Will keep you all posted! <3 Love and light!

Dear Amanda.. Wow, what an experience. The great thing about it is, that you clearly enjoyed it. This sets it apart I feel, from your earlier experiences. To me it shows that you are not so nervous and feel you have more control over what happens. A big step forward!! I would have loved it, if you had made it through my door. I could have given you some feedback. Never mind, I am sure there will be other opportunities. I look forward to reading more about your Astral Adventures!! Happy journeys my friend.. Love and light Kaz

not posted bofore so hope this works I've been doing a lot of buddhist dream and sleep training including lucid dreaming. Also studied it in psychology lectures. As we wake up the differing parts of our mind ordinarily wake up at the same time so sleep paralysis would normally disappear as our other senses go online..sometimes as you know though the process goes wrong and we can have sleep paralysis..also our senses have to and should go back on line...if we are aware before this happens hallucinations can be experienced and very often a feeling of smothering or something lurking is a very common experience..
