I have just finished reading this incredible book. It has really completely pulled together everything spiritually I have ever thought.
Prayer is feeling. Not just words. If you pray, instead of asking for something, feel that you already have the thing you ask for, really feel the feelings of it whole and complete and give thanks for it and it will already be yours....e.g. when you get into the car, sit and say thank you god for a safe journey, and imagine yourself arriving back home and putting away your groceries....get the idea? It is such a powerful idea, go on try it you will be amazed!
The other really powerful idea in it is blessing. Bless those that curse you....that is much more difficult than you think. Sit quietly somewhere where you will not be disturbed and think of what you want to bless (something which has happened which has hurt you greatly - it could be something in the news that has hurt others greatly instead - then BLESS THE SUFFERER...if this is you, imagine yourself being blessed and immerse yourself in the feeling of being blessed then BLESS THOSE WHO HAVE INFLICTED THE SUFFERING...this is really hard. You must hold no judgement in your heart, but simply bless the perpetrator.....how can you bless someone like the terrorists who perpetrated 9/11....this is very difficult but with practice it can and will happen for you. Then dont forget the final part, BLESS YOURSELF IN THE WITNESSING....OR BLESS THOSE WHO HAVE WITNESSED THESE EVENTS...the eye-witnesses. e.g. I bless myself for having seen these things....or I bless the people who witnessed 9/11.
We are masters at keeping the things shut away locked inside ourselves which hurt us. We try not to let people see when they hurt us, but this suggests that if you once use this blessing....or maybe more than once, PERSIST...you will find that all sorts of feelings well up inside you and you "burst" - i.e. you will find yourself sobbing and sad and upset....and healed.
Those things which you bury deep inside you can become poisonous and cancerous and actually make you ill. I believe it is the bible which says "bring forth that which is within you and it will heal you, do not and it will destry you" (excuse the not-exact quotation). It makes sense, when you think about it.
I did this blessing with my mother. Just to give you an example of how much it helped me.
I blessed myself, as the person who had suffered the abuse from her. She was alcoholic and diseased. Then I blessed her, being the perpetrator of the suffering. This was not easy. Yet I was able to see that she meant well and did her best. Then I blessed those who had witnessed the suffering....my sisters, brother and myself. I was crying my eyes out by the time I had finished....but the cathartic process was incredible.
I find myself now blessing things randomly. That is the wonderful thing. You will find it happens to you too. Try it. I dare you - those things which cannot help you will only hurt you. If you allow them to help you they will heal you.
