H. Spencer Lewis, past Imperator of the Rosicrucians, wrote the book, "The Mystical Life of Jesus".
In it, he draws from "Rosicrucian texts" to explain how:
1.) Jesus was a "Nassene", which was a group closely related to the Essenes.
2.) Nassenes weren't Jewish. They were outsiders living under Jewish law.
3.) He was educated in his childhood at Mt. Carmel, before traveling the known world during his "missing" years.
4.) There was no such place as "Nazereth". That is a misinterpretation of the term for "Nassene" and later, when people looked for it, they named a small oasis town actually called, "Al Nasir" as "Nazereth", due to the similarity of the name. He says that Al Nasir did not have a synagogue at the time of Jesus.
He was "expected" before he was born, and born when and where expected, basically. Lewis said that he was given the very best education due to 2 things:
a.) The Nassenes knew it was necessary preparation for his mission.
b.) Joseph of Arimithea, his wealthy uncle, made travel possible, during his adolescence.
Lewis describes how Mary's husband to be, Joseph was chosen from a group during a ceremony, in which the men stood with staffs and a dove lighted on Joseph's.
He also describes how Jesus did not die on the cross, but was near death and nursed back to health while in the tomb, which Joseph of Arimithea provided, with the help of "Therapeutae"- Essenes, who entered via a hidden entrance.
There's a lot more there. I highlighted at least 1/3 of the book when I read it and a friend of mine who's writing a book on the life of Jesus and drawing from many sources, basically absconded with it.
It's an interesting read at the very least.
