Just found this poem my eldest daughter wrote for my youngest




Suddenly came into our world
Unaware of life's rights and wrongs
Fine silky hair softly curled
Heart after heart she sought and won.

So young, so frail, so very brave
Lighting up your plastic world
Soul and trust she fully gave
Through life's hurdles she was hurled.

Our girl survived and pulled through
Holding onto life giving joy
She came on, laughed, and grew,
Plays merrily with her toys.

So many prejudice on this earth
Why! I could not guess
For Emma lives with life's best qualities
Affections, unselfishness and jest.

Everyone she meets loves Emma
For she is a special girl
Turn our backs to you, never!
We're your oyster, you're our pearl.

Downs' Syndrome they call you
But to us your just a babe
To you we'll always be true
One small reason, we adore you!

What a lovely poem, your daughter has a special love for her sister, its beautiful to see. How wise for one so young too. Also what a gift she has for creative writing.

My brother in law Jim, his sister Lucy had downs. She lived a long, full and interesting life. As you say, its people's ignorance, that make them so insensitive and often unintentionally cruel. Lucy was a funny, loving and intelligent girl, she left a big void in their lives when she passed.
