I've heard of purity being talked about in the churches I used to go to, but I'm not sure if there is a context for it outside of a religious format/ structure. So, my question is: What is purity in the spiritual sense? Are there guidelines for this outside of the Bible? Do you sense what is right and wrong in this area through the spirit? One of the issues I've had with the topic, was what seemed to be a double standard for men in most situations, not in the physical acts, but a double standard in the thoughts. Things that are seen as acceptable thoughts for men, but unacceptable thoughts for women. (Example: A man tells a dirty joke and everyone laughs, but a woman does it and she's gross....) Are the standards different for men and women for a reason or is this another lie? Where is the line drawn between what is right and wrong? Does it depend on the context or the relationship? Or is there some kind of litmus test that can make clear what purity is in terms of thoughts?

I think Purity itself is a spiritual state of consciousness. Which some people may or may not feel connected to. I think there is a difference if someone is trying to live a more conscious spiritual life and someone is not, and they may live and work with different criteria. Once one realizes to a degree that every thought, emotion, and action is an energy. An energy which effects ourselves and our Aura and others we come into contact with, one’s viewpoint is changed.
Astrologically the concept of Purity has to do with the sign of Virgo and it’s archetype. Virgo and its other half Pisces are the two main astrological symbols used in Christianity,, ( ie the Bread (virgo) and the Wine (pisces), Virgin, Fishermen etc etc). Because of this connection may be one of the reasons Purity is so highly praise as a virtue (another virgo word) in Christian ideals.

The purity to self is the only purity that makes a difference. The laws of nature are written in our DNA and the laws of Spirit are written in our hearts, literally. Adherence to these laws leaves us awakened and sentient. Breaking these laws leaves us with inner conflict which puts us to sleep, splits our consciousness and sends us into duality consciousness. The purity of innocence is lost long before we become adults.

This question (purity) is simple if wanting to tread the spiritual path by coming closer to God.
"Purity" must be acheived in word, thought and deed, but sadly in the world today its very difficult. But it can be won if the person is genuine in showing effort by cleansing the mind and heart through prayer and meditation. By ones sincere efforts God will then come near and give help. From this help the person is then raised to a higher state of mind.

I can't say there is a line drawn between men and women on what is pure and what is not pure. I don't intend to try and justify what society decides as impure of my actions, because I do what I do in my life for myself, and because I feel that it is right to do. I think what we decide to do with our lives should be left based up to us, because we know what is best for us, and of course God. It's between you and your relationship with him how you figure out what is pure and unpure.
